Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Status Code: 404 When Retrieving a File

I am retrieving a file in an xbasic function. The file exists in a sub folder of the webroot.
It works fine on the development machine, but on the live web server it fails.
    The console error is...

    Untitled.png
Is there a setting somewhere that allows access to the folder?

    Any ideas?

Does your web server security allow .bmp files?

In Project Properties > File Download > Allowed Filenames I have *.bmp listed.
And in Allowed folders, I have <ApplicationRoot>\temp, which is where the file is located.
Are there any other settings for this?
The strange thing is that it works on the development server but not on the WAS.

would be helpful is you show the syntax of the function.

Reminder of what a 404 error is.

404 errors: These occur when a page can't be found. This can happen if the page has been deleted or if the URL has been typed incorrectly. 400 errors: These indicate that the server is unable to process the request. This can happen if the website is down for maintenance or if there is an error in the code.

What I am doing is a little more complicated. I have done some more analysis...

I want to give the user the ability to preview and edit the body of an email in a UX, before sending the email.
I have integrated CK Editor into a Tabbed UI, and the UX is opened in the Tabbed UI.
There is a Textarea control that is using CK Editor to display the email body, where it can be edited.
When the UX is opened, an xbasic function populates the Textarea control with html that includes an email signature, including an image.
As part of the function, the image is retrieved from a MySQL table, and placed in a folder.
Then the image is inserted into the html using stritran().

The issue is that the WAS and the development server require a different path to find the image file.
So the 404 error was happening on the WAS but not on the development server.
When I started this thread I had not pinned that down. I thought it was a security or permission issue on the WAS.
So the question is: Why should the paths need to be any different?

              Code:
              function populateFields as c (e as p)

              dim flag as l

The question really should be why you aren't using a viewbox?

                  We're back...

                  Code:
The question really should be why you aren't using a viewbox?
                  That's a good question.
I use a lot of list controls in my application. They interact with other components. they have lots of built in functions, method, events, etc.
I'm sure that if I was well versed in viewboxes I could replace all my list controls, but it would be a huge undertaking.
I have implemented a few simple viewboxes, but I don't know how easy it would be to do everything list controls are capable of.
For example, how would I duplicate Multiple Layouts in a viewbox? Is there documentation on this?
I don't see a performance issue with list controls.

Nothing against viewboxes. I just haven't been bitten by the viewbox bug.

bump - have you checked it in the temp folder in the webroot? is it there on the server?

Yes the file exists. The problem is defining the path to the file:

                      Code:
                      dim _imagePreview as c = "\MyApp\temp\\" + _compID + "_Image.bmp" ' 1-11-23 1045 This works on dev server but not on WAS
                      dim _imagePreview as c = "\temp\\" + _compID + "_Image.bmp" ' 1-11-23 1045 This works on WAS but not on dev server.

Why are you referencing the folder location as \temp\\ and not \temp\ - there can't be a nothing folder in a path unless I'm missing something.
