Setvalue in in-place editing

Hello,
How Can I set a value of a textbox in an in-place edit list (before saving it)
What I want to do is :
The user select an item, The unit price is displayed but the user can change it.

Hi Paul,

I have struggled with using Javascript to set a list value while its in "edit" mode. You can use a dialog.object set value method, then it only shows once you go out of edit mode.
I usually achieve what you are doing in one of several ways. In the list, you can go to the fields tab and set the default value of the field using javascript and then return the value.

For example, I usually have a hidden field for when the record was created by the user for example. I would place the following in the In place editing, default value and return the result below:

var now = new Date();

var y = now.getFullYear();
var m = now.getMonth();
var d = now.getDate();

currentDate = m+1 + '/' + d +'/' + y;

return currentDate;

However, in your case, I am assuming you really do not want a hard coded price. You likely have a product table or inventory table somewhere with current prices you want to use as a starting point for user.
In those cases, I will often times use an edit-combo and then do additional fill in fields and pull the price there.

Or you could call a function with the default value and have that function do a sql call to get the value and return it.

Lots of ways to skin the cat.

Someone with more experience may know how to get the value to programmatically set while the row is in edit mode. I think I did it once but did not end up using it.

I don't really know about lists, but feel free to use Video Finder (purefckingmagic.com)
to lookup alpha videos for in place editing.
As you can see in the image below, searching for place edi (just need to type enough) returns 2
videos that seem to be on topic.
