Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    GoogleAddressSuggest filtering

    Hi
    I would like to filter a googleaddresssuggest by a locality specified in another field (in addition to a fixed country). Did anyone do this successfully?

    Thanks
    Jaime

    More detail, please.

    Are you using the google api to help you with this (as in, you are going to call the google api once the user has typed in a search criteria) or are you looking to do something LIKE what google would do, but completely within Alpha?

      I have a textbox, where i select GoogleAddressSuggest in the Special Type property, and also the filtering is done within alpha.

        So you want to add more criteria to the google search than just the country?

        It seems like you would have to find the correct search criteria and add it to the json string. Have you tried that and it did not work or are you looking for which paramater to add to the json?

        My guess is that whatever information you put into the json will be passed to google, even if it goes beyond country.

        I have not used this feature, but it seems like that is how it would work.

        Does your country search work for you, but adding criteria does not? What json have you already tried?

          I know how to pass multiple criterias, and used the javascript function in my code.
          The problem is that it renders with the ux, and i need instead to apply the filter *after* the user filled the locality field...

            I don't use it but you should be doing something like this..

            function countyFilter(){
            //Read value in 'Country' field etc..use any or all of the vars
            var country = {dialog.object}.getValue('Country'); // from the UX control
            var iso = {dialog.object}.getValue('CountryShort');
            var pcode= {dialog.object}.getValue('ZIP_PostCode');
            {country: iso, postalCode: pcode}
            }

              Thanks Pete, but as i have previously stated, i have no problem building the javascript to pass my filter and the filter value is correctly generated.
              The problem is how to apply the filter after i selected a value in another textbox. Currently the filter is applied on UX load.

                This is put in your JavaScript function area- you can make it do what ever you want from any field you want, all the map address action wants to know is the name of the function so just specify javascript:countryFilter and it will use it. that function can do anything for the return value.
                I you want to go down this path make a field countryFilter in you UX and in the onclick of whatever it is you are clicking on use the setValue method like {dialog.object}.setValue('countryFilter', 'some other value'); before calling the map address action Javascript.

                function countyFilter(){
                //Read value in 'Country' field etc..use any or all of the vars
                var country = {dialog.object}.getValue('countryFilter'); // from the UX control
                var iso = {dialog.object}.getValue('CountryShort');
                var pcode= {dialog.object}.getValue('ZIP_PostCode');
                {country: iso, postalCode: pcode}
                }

                  Thanks, but again, i don't have issue with my javascript. The problem is that GoogleAddressSuggest in a textbox loads with the ux (similar to dropdownboxes and other lookups).
                  What i need is some way to tell GoogleAddressSuggest textbox to reload, or to apply the filter at a specific point

                    Hi Jaime,

                    I've been watching this thread, but it seems there's a disconnect between what you want and what others are understanding.
                    Check this video, 02.10.2023-08.43.54 (screencast.com) , see if it's covering the basics of what you want.

                        what you could do is write the appropriate javascript with the code pulling the filter needed from the field values you want EXACTLY as pete described - then trigger this in the after select event of an edit combo look-up. You can also put this code in an OnBlur event if you need it to run at that time.

                          apply the filter at a specific point
                          What does this mean? - Last try.

                            Hi guys
                            Sorry i was not clear enough.
                            I have the following:
                            - Textbox field with specific City ( lets call it myCity )
                            - Textbox with Google Address suggest.

                            In the GoogleAddressSuggest, i want to filter by a specific (fixed) country *and* the value in myCity.
                            I have javascript that sets the filter correctly, but this javascript is triggered only when loading the ux.
                            How can i trigger this javascript again for instance in the myCity's onBlur event?

                              What event is being triggered when the UX loads ?
                              That answer should lead you to the answer you want.
                              Option B would be to share the UX itself so we can see what's happening.
