Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Cannot re-create SQL Security tables

I deleted my security tables on the SQL backend, so that I can start with a clean slate.
Problem is that I cannot re-create the tables again and I cannot get the USERS and GROUPS window to open.
All the other functions open no problem but not the USERS and GROUPS function.
I have read similar problems on the message board but find no concrete solutions.
Can anyone please assist me with this problem
    Many thanks

    Neville

Re: Cannot re-create SQL Security tables

I have active link tables in my Default.WebProjects directory that map to the security tables in the SQL database. Did you delete the active link tables?

I deleted the four tables that were situated on the MSSQL backend. I do not know where the active link tables would be?

they are in the (desktop) control panel->tables/set.

start with a blank sheet, i would imagine. i did not have a need for it yet, but delete all the sql backend tables and delete all the active link tables in the control panel. then start all over again. this looks like a very drastic thing to do.

The active link tables for the websecurity system are in the WebProjects folder. Look for a set of files with the "websecurity_" prefix in the Web Projects Control Panel. Delete these files from your project.

The websecurity active link tables are not in the Tables/Sets tab of the other Control Panel.

RE: "what if they go corrupt"

Plan for disaster. Backup your database daily. Recreating the table structure is the least of your worries in the event that the websecurity tables are corrupted. If you have other data in your application that links off of user values, then you'll absolutely need a way to rollback your database to a good state to recover your tables.

Alpha has always required the web security files live in the web projects folder for as long as I've been using it - so since version 11.

In version 11, when configuring websecurity with a SQL backend, you had to manually create the active link tables through the Control Panel's Tables/Sets tab. But the last step in the process was always to move your active link tables from the database folder to the web projects folder. If you used DBF tables for web security, 11 automatically placed them in the web projects folder and did not add them to Tables/Sets. You have to do that part yourself. Web security doesn't work if the websecurity_* DBF or active link tables are not in the web projects folder.

while these both statements seem correct I don't remember moving my active link tables anywhere. it was such a long time ago, I tend to forget what I did after certain time.
