Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SSL question

    Greetings,

I wish to apprise the team of a recent development pertaining to the SSL certificate I generated using OpenSSL. While cognizant of the standard protocol involving authorization through our SSL provider or the necessity of signing it, I temporarily attached the certificate to our server for testing purposes.

Regrettably, during this testing phase, I encountered an error that requires our collective expertise. The error message reads as follows:

    "404 unknown type extension '.a5w'"

In light of this, I kindly seek your guidance and expertise on resolving this issue effectively. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

It is worth noting that the SSL certificate in question was generated using openSSL, and I meticulously followed the instructions outlined in the Alpha documentation for its creation.

To address this issue, I intend to attach the certificate to the PHP server and will promptly update you on the outcome.

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention, Ted.

Personally I use Let's Encrypt on my personal Synology server. It's free.
And also Cloudflare which comes with my Hosting account for bigger web stuff

This Forum uses Cloudflare cos I get the error messages sometimes.

Are you suggesting that if I generate the SSL certificate using Let's Encrypt, it will function properly on the alpha server?

When considering Cloudflare, I associate it with robust DDoS attack protection and the capability to distribute your application across numerous web zones. However, one must exercise caution when dealing with DNS propagation and caching, as these aspects can potentially introduce significant security challenges. I have personally encountered such issues in the past, and they had a profound impact on my operations. It's important to note that the specific challenges and outcomes may vary depending on the nature of the project being published or deployed.

I welcome and value your feedback and insights.

You could try Let's Encrypt and see what happens. I don't use Apha Web so cannot comment on its use on Alpha Servers.
As for your concern about Cloudflare, I have Images for use if I am hacked. Happened once on a shooting web site I run. (J!).
All locked down now, but nothing is absolute.
Unfortunately there are miscreants out there who will try for a way in. It's a game to them.
One thing I can confirm, is that Alpha DT security is tight. A gvmnt security guy tried to break the encryption and gave up when challenged.

If you use classic Alpha server and your site is available public Cloudflare is the way to go. Most important task is to hide your actual IP and Cloudflare will do it. You can not protect your server if your IP is known. Also I do not think it is wise to run classic Alpha server in public access without proxy in anycase

What comes to Cloudflare it can solve also the prefight request problems with Alpha and when you bind it to a domain your can also take advance with its Zero Trust with or without Alpha server and not to forget that you can publish static sites and later bind Cloudflare Workers to them. So Cloudflare frontend and Alpha backend is possible combination also.
