Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tap, Trap and wrap!

    The integrated login for a ux does not have the option for allowing browsers to store login info. The older login component has this as a property. I based my app around a ux with the integrated login. Is there a way to enable this? Since I am running my app through a saved home screen icon allowing the users of the app to save the login info is important since my app is based on speed of use. My users tap, trap, and wrap!
    It would be a hassle, and it seems to me a step backwards to go back to the old login component since I am using events to float a heap of session.variables, and fill a bushel of args. Can someone help me fall forward on this one?

    Surprised that no one has battled this one. If your running your app through a home screen icon, this would be a must have. If your customer can save the login for every site , and app but yours, you might be left out in the cold very soon.

      AA,
      Seems like there should be an answer to this question?

        Re: Tap, Trap and wrap!

        What you want to do is very straightforward using localStorage.

        In your UX component, Client-side afterLogin Event, do something like this...

        Code:
        var userId = {dialog.Object}.getValue('UserName');
        var pWord = {dialog.Object}.getValue('Password');
        var logInfo = '[{ "userId":"' + userId + '" , "pWord":"' + pWord + '" }]';
        localStorage.setItem('myLoginInfo',logInfo);
        {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');
        This grabs the UserName and Password entered, puts them into a JSON string and then stores that string into localStorage.

        Then... in the UX onRenderComplete event, do this...

        Code:
        var myInfo = localStorage.getItem('myLoginInfo');
        if(myInfo != null){
        	var logObj = JSON.parse(myInfo);
        	{dialog.Object}.setValue('UserName',logObj[0].userId);
        	{dialog.Object}.setValue('PassWord',logObj[0].pWord);
        }
        When the UX Component renders, we check for the localStorage Item. If it's there, we get the JSON string, parse it into a JSON Object, grab it's values, and perform .setValues.

        Now... the values are set and we just need to tap the Login button.

            Works great rhank you! I am running the app through a saved home screen icon on apple devices, I noticed that if I leave the app it closes. Is there a way to keep it from loosing state?

              It's a security enabled app, and you're logged in, so I imagine it's session is expiring and you're being turfed. Is that what's happening?

                Re: Tap, Trap and wrap!

                Yes security is enabled. If I run it from the home screen icon, and I leave the session to go to another app it closes, and I must re login. Unlike if I run it directly through Safari, I can go to another app, and as long as I do not manually close Safari i can return to the session, as long as it doesn't time out. So it seems if you run it through the saved home screen icon it closes as soon as you leave the app, Running it on iphone4, and a ipad mini. In fact if I look for it after leaving it in my open apps it is there but the screen is black.

                  Re: Tap, Trap and wrap!

                  Thanks indeed, storing and retrieving works indeed great.

                  I tried to refine it a little and defined a button saveCredentials which gives the user 3 option:
                  - store logindata (button value = save)
                  - do nothing (keep) if he log's in with an alternative username (button value = keep)
                  - remove login data (button value = delete)

                  What happens is that whatever i try, the latest login data are stored.....
                  Of course i tested that the different button values are returned with an alert(savelogin);

                  But maybe i can get some help with the javascript below which is causing this?

                  [QUOTEvar savelogin = {dialog.Object}.getValue('SaveCredentials');

                  switch(savelogin) {
                  case "save":
                  var userId = {dialog.Object}.getValue('USERNAME');
                  var pWord = {dialog.Object}.getValue('PASSWORD');
                  var logInfo = '[{ "userId":"' + userId + '" , "pWord":"' + pWord + '" }]';
                  localStorage.setItem('myLoginInfo',logInfo);
                  break;
                  case "keep":
                  //do nothing, we keep what has been previously stored
                  break;
                  case "delete":
                  var userId = '';
                  var pWord = '';
                  var logInfo = '[{ "userId":"' + userId + '" , "pWord":"' + pWord + '" }]';
                  localStorage.setItem('myLoginInfo',logInfo);
                  break;
                  default:
                  //do nothing, we keep what has been previously stored

                    Instead of setting localStorage values of a key to nothing, you could delete the key with...

                    Code:
                    localStorage.removeItem("myLoginInfo");

                      var logInfo = '[{ "userId":"' + userId + '" , "pWord":"' + pWord + '" }]';
                      if you substitute with the variables it will look like this
                      Code:
                      var logInfo = '[{ "userId":"' '' '" , "pWord":"' '' '" }]';
                      that may not be appropriate to start with.
                      you can also simply set the localStorage to "" like
                      localStorage.setItem('myLoginInfo', "");
                      no need to specifically assign the variable to empty values.
                      i use window.localstorage but in alpha, may be different like the way you have.
                      while it is definitely convenient, remember someone else can have access to your phone and hence access to the program itself.
                      i usually limit username to be saved only, not the password. but you know best for your scenario.

                        Re: Tap, Trap and wrap!

                        Thanks David, Govindan,

                        Both localStorage.removeItem("myLoginInfo"); and localStorage.setItem('myLoginInfo', ""); work.

                        At first only localStorage.setItem('myLoginInfo', ""); worked for deleting, and no luck with keeping the old values after a loging with new values. Which put me on track of the real culprit: browser caching.

                        I had also the local storage settings activated in at the UX properties (see image below).
                        This seems to give the the UX a 'backup' restore option, even if you want to manage the storage only by code.

                        Once i switched that off, everything works as intended. In this case switching this of is no problem. But if you need both than one has to find a way to work with separate local storage areas: one for general purposes and one only for specific code. But that is a subject for another thread.
