Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to Reset Tab Control on UX?

    Hey guys,

    This might be trivial and its always the small things that trip me up.

    This is for a browser application, I have a UX component with two panelcards. One panelcard contains a List Control where when a row is selected, populates controls on the second panelcard. The second panelcard has the before mentioned controls organized in a tab control (genie style). What I want is to add code to a button click that will reset the second panelcard to blank, (clear-out all the data that was populated). I have tried the {dialog.object}.resetForm() but it does not remove the content within the tab control. I know the .resetForm action works, as other controls on the screen (not within the tab control) are reset.

    Any way you guys can suggest to reset the tabcontrol?

    Thanks,
    Laura-Kae

    Hi Laura-Kae,

    Are the controls on the second panelcard part of a Detail View of the List control? Or... are you just populating the controls using Action Javascript... and they're essentially read-only?

    Generally, you'd use the {dialog.Object}.setValue() method...

    Code:
    {dialog.Object}.setValue(UXControlName,value [,honorChangeEvent] );
    where you'd set the optional honorChangeEvent to false to prevent the UX from going dirty.

    How many controls are there in the second panel card which you want to clear?

      Hey David,

      The controls aren't apart of a detail view or anything like that, I'm just populating the controls using the action JS 'populate controls'.
      They are editable and saved to a table in my SQL DB.
      I want to be able to clear all the controls on the second panelcard, we are talking maybe 100+ textboxes.

        I'm not sure how dangerous this is... may depend on what else you have in your UX. This code will include the List Control... so you'll have to see what effect it has on that List. You can always test for the List within the loop and ignore that control.

        Code:
        var myCtrls = {dialog.Object}.columnInfo;

        for(var ctrl in myCtrls) {
        	if(myCtrls.hasOwnProperty(ctrl)){
        		{dialog.Object}.setValue(ctrl,'');
        	}
        }
        A list of controls is held in the {dialog.Object}.columnInfo property. We loop through the controls and set each control value to ''. You probably don't need the .hasOwnProperty if statement.

          Hey David,

          Thanks! it works great! Excluded the .hasOwnProperty like you suggested. It doesn't look like it affects the list control at all.
          Where did you find notes on the .columnInfo property? Would love to take a read of the properties held on the {dialog.object}

          Thanks,
          Laura-Kae

            You go sleuthing for them in a debugger. You pretty much figure that Alpha has to keep a list of them somewhere and so you looking. Selwyn mentions the debugger, the dialog object, and looking at properties in a number of his videos. The videos are always worth watching. Even if some are not in an area you need, watch them anyway... you never know what gems lie within.
