Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Using session.variable in filtering the dropdown in a Tabbed UI component

I have been using this option for years on my own servers but now that I upgraded to AlphaCloud, there seems to be an issue with session.variables being used in a tabbed UI.

The Tabbed UI reads the session variable correct but then when you want to use the session.variable in one of the compenents called from the TabbedUI in the filter section for limiting the data made available in the search section where we limit what is listed in a dropdown list, the session.variable is no longer available there.

The code used to populate the dropdown is:
    SELECT lib_country.CTRY_REF, adm_repr_ctry.REPR_CTRY_ID
    FROM adm_repr_ctry adm_repr_ctry
    INNER JOIN lib_country lib_country
    ON adm_repr_ctry.REPR_CTRY_ID = lib_country.CTRY_ID
    WHERE adm_repr_ctry.REPR_ENT_ID = session.nCompanyID
    ORDER BY lib_country.CTRY_REF

The problem is that in the component the session.nCompanyID is not being read. The error we get is:

Property not found session.nCompanyID subelement not found.

Anyone any idea how this can be corrected? It probably is something that needs to be set in the AlphaCloud settings but I have no idea which setting that may be?!?!

Are you setting the session variable in the tabbed UI ONLY?
I call it in every component. Also, I publish them client side (use all CAPS) as well. SO far no problems.
I do not use Alpha Cloud though, so not sure it's helpful.

Thanks Charles for responding, but I have this issue specifically on the AlphaCloud server, I have been using it on stand alone servers and it works there. The lookup lists are compiled Server side so I am not sure that publishing the session variables to the client side will add anything.

Also wanted to add, that often i will place (and hide later) a textbox in the component that during initialization holds the session variables as well. This allows me to visually see the values if necessary during development - you can easily use that field for filtering lookups, as args for child components or lists, etc.

At any rate, if you're sure its a bug of some sort - send an email to AA - they will set you straight.

Hi Charles, that was very helpful, thanks. I think it will have to be escalated as a bug since the session variables are read by the TabbedUI container itself but not within the component below. But let me play with it just a bit more to make sure I eliminate any other problem.

            Regards, Marcel
