Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

New stable version 8963 - security doesn't work

Is there some change in how security works in the latest stable version 8963?
We installed it this evening, and while we can login none of the components with security will appear.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

I have already done that. Just wondered if anyone else had the same issue. Or, has there been a change in how security works?

I do not like component security. I have always found it to cause issues.

        A couple issues right off:
-If you're working with multiple developers, you always have to go in and reset it.
-I've had to go through and debug things not working countless times, and then just needed to select always denied, then save/publish, then change it back, then save/publish, for reasons I do not understand.

I now just use a main UX component, and have a menu that allows or denies access to the components there. It also looks nice with the Tab and URL never changing.

I am having the same issue. Specific to my case, I use a5ws_getcurrentuser(), a security function, that seems to be broken now.

Thank you! I am going to explore the main UX component/menu idea.
I wanted to send a bug report, but I just have the time to do that right now. Thanks again,

FYI I rolled back to build 8867 and security is working again.

Picking up on Russell's comments. The problem is exactly what he described. I use panels and in the controlbar is an html menu. I changed the security on one menu item, saved, republished then put it back. That one item works now.
That means I have to spend hours redoing the menu for each menu item just for the security.

Mike, if you need a hand with this let me know. I have a system down pat now, and can even send you a component if you want it.

                    Hi Russell,
Thank you! If you could send a sample component, that would be great. I am in the process of training a person to take over the site so this would great to help him learn. [email protected]

Give me just a bit and I will.
I think this was built in 7761 by the way.

I have experienced this issue whenever I upgrade from an older version. If I then go to Web Security, then Page Security, I have to set permissions again for all pages and components. It's a pain, but I do get it to work, being sure not to apply security to index.a5w. I have not tried the latest version, but have had to do this with version 8722.
