Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    JSON Form a5helper_getjsonformitems_fromdatabase documentation?

I'm interested to learn more about the JSON form but particularly the a5helper_getjsonformitems_fromdatabase() function used in this video: alphamediacapture.s3.amazonaws.com/videos/datadrivenjsonforms_1.mp4

I can get it to work as demonstrated, but I can't find any information about how to create a dropdown box this way, for example, because there's not one in the Excel file in the video example. I've search Alpha documentation, release notes, forum, Googled. Does anyone know what the syntax/options are for this method?

Chris, is this what you're looking for?

Thanks Russell. This is actually more advanced use than the use case I'm currently looking at.

In the video link I provided, Selwyn shows an Excel file at around 20 seconds. It has the necessary columns for a JSON form (I figured out it's missing a couple at this point--default value and required):

id, formId, prompt, type, variable, page, choices, showhide, disable, readonly, defaultValue, required

For the "type" column, he has rows with the values of "test", "textbox-datepicker:dd/MM/yyyy", "switch", and "button-list". The button-list has choices defined in a comma-delimited list in the "choices" column.

There is an Alpha function called a5helper_getjsonformitems_fromdatabase that converts these row/column definitions into the JSON Form structure. The code within that function is not available.

I can't find any documentation that lists what the allowed values are for the "type" column (or any other column). If I set the "type" as "dropdown", the function above produces a dropdown control, but it doesn't have any options. If I provide a comma-delimited list of choices like the button-list control, they still don't show up.

I'm not sure how much this will help, but:

This video shows the xbasic used:
        https://alphamediacapture.s3.amazona...sonforms_2.mp4

This link is for all JSON Form info/videos I know of:
        https://aadocuments.s3.amazonaws.com...JSONForms.html

This image shows what is available in JSON Forms, or at least what Alpha has examples of in the release I'm in:
You find it by going to Web Project Control Panel, Tools at the top, then Open JSONForm Tester Window, then at the top once it opens, select Load Example. You can select them, and get a general idea, or just have a list of what is available in your version, and what they are named to call them.

          Thanks again, Russell.

I had found all these resources as well, except for the image you shared. And I have working code, using a5helper_getjsonformitems_fromdatabase() to pull data from a database (instead of an Excel file) and produce a JSON form UI. But the values that need to be in the database aren't documented in any resource I've found. I may reach out to Alpha directly.
