Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Keep Grid Centered

    I have an a5w page that displays a grid in a container that is centered on the page by using left padding. Depending on the user's security roles, the green and purple buttons may or may not be visible. When a user logs in that is not authorized to use the buttons, they disappear from view, but now the container that holds the grid is no longer centered. Is there any way I can force it to stay centered?

    Do not use left padding. Just go in to the a5w page and use html <center> and </center> before and after the code that loads the component to the page, as in:

    <center>
    <%A5 ?x_PROGRESSNOTES_E.Output.Body.Search_HTML %>
    <%A5 ?x_PROGRESSNOTES_E.Output.Body.Grid_HTML %>
    <%A5 ?x_PROGRESSNOTES_E.Output.Body.DetailView_HTML %>
    <%a5 ?a5dialogHelper_generateCORSHeaders() %>
    </center>
    </body></html>

      Gary thank you for the quick reply, but my apologies as I think I might have missed some information when I described the problem. The container that holds the grid is actually part of a UX panel navigator that is on an.a5w page. Is there a way to center it in there? I see several options for spacing and height but nothing for centering.

        Hi Rich,

        I don't know, but would it serve your purpose if instead of embedding a grid in to the ux, embed the a5w page?

          if you are not using Panels in your UX, you can specify the component to be centered on the page from the properties settings (you will probably want to remove the padding)

            Actually, panels are exactly what I am using.

              Have you tried using an alignment container rather than a standard container?

                Hi Lance,
                I had never even heard of an alignment container, but I found it and tried it, but it seems to be forcing the grid to the left. (Unless of course I am using it wrong.)

                  Not being able to control the alignment/look of a grid was what made me move away from using them as soon as I could.

                  Try setting the alignment container width to 100%

                    Unfortunately, that did not make a difference. :(

                      Are the embedded control on page window properties set at all? If not try doing away with the container altogether and setting the embedded object to fill the panelcard.

                      Looking at your UX, there seems to be more going on than meets the eye, the header (container 7) contains 10 buttons, however only 8 are shown. Is it possible that the two others are having an adverse affect on your layout.

                      Personally I would set the buttons in the header to all be in a controlbar. This makes for a neater easier to control item and reduces overhead of the overall UX

                        Okay I removed the container and set the grid (embedded object) to fill the panel card, but it still looks the same.

                        As for the buttons, two of them are for testing and will not be used in the finished version.

                          I am flummoxed! The only other thing I can think of is there is something funny with the layout of your embedded control itself, have you tried putting that in an alignment container?

                            Perhaps you can set a session variable to hold the usergroup or whatever value you need in the embedded group to set the client side "enable" properties to enable the button or disable it while leaving everything in place and centered...instead of removing it. Seems like that would work fairly easily.
