Need to format calculated expression date to read MM/YY

Hello all,

I just need to format a calculated field which is displaying a date to read - MM/YY.

I'm sure this should be simple and I'm just missing.

Sorry, was in a rush walking out of the office and just wanted to fire off an email....

I have a calculated expression within a UX component. The actual expression is just grabbing a value from another field. For purposes of showing a an alternate view of an existing date.

Need to show date as MM/YY.

You can use the .toFormat method that Alpha has added into the Javascript Library. In your Javascript functions you can put this...

function formatDate(dt){

	try{
		return dt.toFormat("MM/yy");
		}catch(err) { }

}

This takes the date object passed into the function (dt) and returns it formated as MM/yy.

Your Calculated Field Expression would be...

formatDate(SQL_BALSHEETDATE)

Where SQL_BALSHEETDATE is a UX date control containing a valid date object.

grabbing a value from another field

if the other field is d1 then the calculated expression will be
substr(d1,0,2) + "/" + substr(d1,8,2)
should work
(the calculated field should have been declared as character field, i presume, and the other field is mm/dd/yyyy)

Gandhi, this is ok if you're working with a either a string or a date that is date only and not date/time... and if the format of the input is MM/dd/yyyy. If your format is anything else, substr will yield the wrong results. What if your app is set up for users in different parts of the world where their date formats are different? If the input is a date object coming from a SQL date/time field, e.g. 02-28-2009 12:00:00 00 am, then using substr actually results in Sa/28.

Carsell didn't actually say what he was working with beyond that it was a date. If it's a date object then it's best to work with it as a object and then it doesn't matter what the input format is.

Thank you all who have posted. I found a solution. The original date was being called up via JavaScript, so I just created a separate javascript to populate the alternate field with the mm/yy format. So now it shows both.
