Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

"Your security credentials do not allow access to this resource"

    Hi,

We're trying to set up a report on our website using alpha and a5w pages. We have a button that is supposed to generate a pdf report from the alpha reports using a javascript onClick event but it generates this error when we try and load the report. It works fine on the local machine but when it's on the web server we get this error.

Does anyone know how to correctly set up security to load reports?

    Thanks,

    Ben

    Ben,

You need to set the component security for that report - you probably have it set to "Always Denied" which is usually by default.

Additionally, after you set your permissions, you will need to re-publish to take effect.

Also as a word of caution, sometimes you will want to restart the server which will FORCE a quick reload of the current security settings for all components etc as the server reboots with the new settings. I think there's a small window where you can make a security change and the server takes a bit to recognize the change, forcing it to restart corrects that lag.
Best practices would say to make sure your security settings are in fact what you want the FIRST time you publish them, otherwise you'll get an error because as stated the default is "Always Denied" - annoying but I guess its best to error on the side of caution...

Hi, I believe to have set the component security correctly to always allowed. The report is defined in our workspace and not in the web projects control panel. I will try and check the logs.

I checked the logs and it says access denied to a5wrunreport.a5w. Any ideas?

Set the security for the page as well as the component and republish the security.

a5runreport isn't in our project, but is one of the built in pages for Alpha.

We found a solution. Instead of creating a report from a dbf, we made the report from a set. We no longer have issues, we are just going to make sure all of our data is in sets now.

                  Ben

Sets don't contain data directly. Sets define the relationships between tables where all data is stored.

                  Glad you found a solution.
