Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    .refreshListData() options

    {dialog.object}.refreshListData() allows some options. Anyone certain of the syntax?

    I've tried

    {dialog.object}.refreshListData('COMPANIES',{onlyRefreshDependentLists: true});

    and a few variations, but can't get it to work.

    I'll note that the Companies list has 3 dependent lists - I'm adding a row to one of them and the function works fine (e.g. the new record in the child list shows up) if I don't include the option. But the lists are rather large so I'm looking for some way to speed the process - this seems like a good candidate for some improvement in performance.

    Re: .refreshListData() options

    When you say, speed up the process - what action are you looking to speedup? The child lists or the refresh of all the lists? Not that I have an answer...I know enough to know it may help those more familiar with lists to have that info.

      I want to refresh the child list where I just added a record. I don't care how it gets done, but it appears that I need to do what I'm describing here. I need that new record displayed in the list, and with it's official primary key value, so I can make use of it.

        Re: .refreshListData() options

        Update - I still have this problem. I have a parent and child list. Child list is defined as having a parent list, with the data pre-loaded, and proper linking fields defined. So when I add a new record to the child table via a callback and SQL Insert, I'm having trouble getting that new child record to show up in the list.

        This works, but only on the desktop - not on mobile devices:
        Code:
        {dialog.object}.refreshListData('PARENT')
        Neither of these work in my desktop testing:
        Code:
        {dialog.object}.refreshListsIncremental();
        {dialog.object}.refreshListData('PARENT',{mode: 'incremental'})
        This cannot be done - Alpha tell you that if you try:
        Code:
        {dialog.object}.refreshListData('CHILD',{mode: 'incremental'});
        Kinda running out of options here. Any ideas?

          Re: .refreshListData() options

          You don't say what kind of mobile you're working with... browser or PGB. I'm also not sure of the process or effect you're looking for.

          However, when working with pre-loaded data child lists, I believe you must refresh the parent. It's the parent that controls the pre-load. What you need to do to "see" the changes to the child list is to nudge the parent after the refresh. The parent record needs, what I would call, a "hard" select. I can't see how this can be achieved if the parent record already has focus. So, take focus away from the parent, and re-select that row.

          This code works browser and PGB. After the new record has been added via your callback... run this code...

          Code:
          var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LISTCUSTOMERS');  //parent list
          var currValue= lObj.value[0]; //get the value of the currently selected row
          lObj._deselectAll(); //deselect all rows of the list
          {dialog.object}.refreshListData('LISTCUSTOMERS',{setFocusToValue:currValue}); // refresh the parent, which re-pre-loads the child, and sets focus to the row previously selected.
          This child list will now show the newly added row.

            Thanks David, not Phone Gap.

            As you can see by my post, I know it needs to be the parent refreshed, but that still hasn't done the job for testers with smartphones. I'll enhance my approach with your suggestions, but it does seem odd to me that one would have to go through these extra steps, especially when it all works fine on a desktop browser, but not a smartphone.

              I'm not sure that you can achieve what you'd like. You want to refresh 1 out of 3 child lists, but I think it's a package deal. You can't specify which child list to refresh. A simple .refreshListData of the parent list will, in a desktop browser, and mobile browser (Android 6), refresh the children. No other code is needed. I thought I needed to re-select the parent row, but find it's not necessary.

                Re: .refreshListData() options

                No, I understand that refreshing the parent in such a case will refresh all child lists. I don't really have a problem with that.

                To simplify this, I've "unhooked" two of the child lists from the parent. So now I have a parent list with a single child list. I add a record to that (via callback and SQL insert -- I have my reasons) child table, and try to get that child list refreshed -- through any method at all. But only one method produces the refreshed display of the child list with the new record in a desktop browser. Nothing works on a smartphone browser.

                  This is running on an iPhone, in the browser. The refresh code is

                  Code:
                  {dialog.object}.refreshListData('LISTCUSTOMERS');
                  This seems to be working ok.

                    If you are using v4 then it's possible the parent list is no longer emitting the value you think, I reported this as an observation only post to alert people to not lose hours trying to solve an issue that is actually caused by a corrupted list, the only option was to recreate the list to fix the issue, that is what this could be for you, to test set a control as a calculated field again the list return value and see what appears.

                      Thanks for that David. I'll keep at it; that's what I'm doing and still doesn't show the additional child on my testers' iPhones.

                          It's correct Pete. It works correctly on Android browsers, all desktop browsers, but does not refresh to show the new record on an iPhone.

                            Well, been at this one for another week. Still cannot add a record to this list and get that record displayed on an iPhone. It works really really well on a desktop browser.

                            My current configuration is different than below. Now the list is NOT set as a child of anything. Instead it's filtered using an argument:

                            bw_CompanyID = :Company_ID.

                            So the user has a button, with some controls below the list to add a record. A click of the button causes an AJAX callback that is correctly adding the record to the table. And then to refresh the list I'm using this:

                            {dialog.object}.refreshListData('bodies');

                            As I've said, this works really well and fast on a desktop browser. But we can't seem to get the new record to show in the list on an iPhone. Any suggestion on what might work here?

                              Steve, you've never posted what build you're working with. And, in all this time, you've not provided the one thing that would most likely help the most... a sample UX with table dumps. As you say, you've been working on this for weeks but have only provided snippits of code... nothing concrete to work with. Who knows what else you have going on that could affect this process.
