Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Patches causing the physical server to 'crash'

Has anyone else had an issue with updating the a5 server software causing the physical server to stop responding? This is the second patch (12.4.0 build 3577, 4658) and the prior pre-release. that I have applied remotely that has crashed my server. I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem to determine if there is something wrong at my end.

I've done three servers on the original official release Frank, no problems. These three happened to all be at Zebrahost if case that matters to your troubleshooting.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I will have to look at my machine more closely.

Hi Frank, I have a couple of servers running 3550_4650 which is the last official patch without any issues.

        Kind regards

Hi Glenn, Thanks for the reply. The latest official patch worked OK. It is just the pre-releases. If I apply them locally from the terminal the patches go OK. It is only from the RDC that the lockup occurs. This is the first time I have had this issue and I can't imagine what is happening. If I get time i will try to slog through the logs to see if that yields any clues.

Re: Patches causing the physical server to 'crash'

            Hi Frank,

When I ran the patch on two servers, I noticed that it did not run the DOS script (appears to be for the node.js install) if I simply "opened" the patch. When I right clicked on the .exe and selected Run As Administrator it ran fine. You might try the Run as Administrator option and see if that helps.

Re: Patches causing the physical server to 'crash'

As a follow up, we use join.me to do web support for customers for an old desktop product we have. Often, when I am installing software on their computer, it will look like it's not responding when it's actually prompting the other user for permission to continue, but I can't see that dialog box on my screen. Since you say that it only happens on RDC, I would suspect that is what's going on in your case as well. The server is waiting for administrative approval which you can't see.

Thanks I will look for that. I did try alt + tab to see if there was anything blocking. I am the administrator on that machine. I am not sure if there is an advantage to run as administrator when I am the administrator. I will give it a try next time.

I log into our AA servers using the admin account as well (via RDP) but using the Run as Administrator elevates the process to a higher level.
