Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    david
just so you know, i did not forget or not attempt to test. this api always returns error. i got the same response as lenny and if you carefully look at it, the link is backpedalling to the original link.
i have even tried with angularJS which i am comfortable with, still the same it cannot connect to the server. on the other hand alpha and angularJS can easily connect to other sites easily.
i don't think it has anything to do with sni it is only on top of tls to have multiple certificates.
the owners are not providing better samples/examples. but they speak of how easy it is to get the data.
hope you find a solution. good luck.

Re: http_fetch returning Error Code 1801 (SSL Error)

First of all, thank you both for that information, that clears some things up.

I have left the protocol default (HTTP/1.1) and I am getting the same html returned that you got, which contains that Object Moved message, which as you said, is pointing to the original link.

So if I understand correctly, nothing is wrong with the call (except that I set the protocol to HTTPS), so the issue is on the API's end?

Again, thanks for the help so far!

Re: http_fetch returning Error Code 1801 (SSL Error)

The response is not an error. It is attempting to set cookies and then have the URL requested with a new query string parameter to indicate that the cookies should be there. This is a fairly common pattern for servers that strictly require cookies.

http_fetch() does not follow redirects such as this and that is by design. Assuming there is no option to have the API provider remove the requirement for these cookies, there are 3 possible approaches to deal with this:
        1. Try http_get_page2() or http_post_page2(). These will follow the redirect automatically, but they lack flexibility (e.g. you cannot set custom headers). If they work in this case, they are probably the simplest solution.
        2. Use http_fetch as you already are, parse the initial response, then follow the redirect and include the cookies. This allows you to keep the flexibility of http_fetch, but requires a bit more code. If you are somewhat familiar with HTTP status codes, this is a pretty easy task. If you are not familiar with HTTP status codes, you should learn them regardless of the solution you choose here.
        3. Use a .Net object such as System::Net::HttpWebRequest (there are other .Net objects that can be used as well). If you're familiar with .Net, this may be the most comfortable approach for you.

          It's finally working!

Based on that information, I just added the AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 as part of the query string, and it returned the xml that I wanted it to.

Thank you very much for all the help. I have been trying to get this to work for close to 2 months now, and now it's finally working.

My apologies for my lack of knowledge in certain areas, I'm learning some of this as I go along, while using what I already know in certain areas as well.

Many thanks to both of you!
