Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Connecting Mobile App to Alpha DBF database

    I have a large application with many components all built with an Alpha DBF back end.
    I built this before Alpha’s push to SQL and because I was more familiar with D-Base relational databases.
    I resist converting to SQL, even though I know eventually I will have to, because of all the procedures in the application.

    I have been working on a mobile application for iOS. I have it built, and uploaded to PhoneGap Build and have installed on my iPhone.
    My problem is, the application is storing the data from the test database on my local machine.
    I have set the PhoneGap profile to point to the ip address of my server but it still not loading data from the server.
    Is there a tutorial addressing my issue or can you tell me if my mobile app will work with DBF.
    Can you point me in the right direction?

    Re: Connecting Mobile App to Alpha DBF database

    You don't mention what Alpha version/build you're working with. You also don't say what controls are showing your local data. I'll assume a List.

    By default, Lists and other specific controls are pushed to PhoneGap Build with data. If you shove a button in a header, or somewhere, that refreshes the data, do you get your server data?

    Are you sure your URL for Ajax Callbacks is correct... and in the correct format?

    I understand, to a point, your sticking with dbf... but it's simply not where you want to be. Move to MySQL or SQL Server... or any of the other variants.

      Re: Connecting Mobile App to Alpha DBF database

      Thank you for responding to my post.
      I am using 12.4.2 build 3670 4684
      I am using a list component
      I looked for an ajax call back or action javascript that would refresh the list but wasn't sure which would be best.
      The URL set in the Phone Gap profile for call backs is as followings; http://192.155.234.21/A5Webroot
      I am working with MySQL on other projects. I suppose I'll have to spend the winter updating my application, but for now, is there a fix for the mobile app.

        Re: Connecting Mobile App to Alpha DBF database

        By default, I believe A5Webroot is usually set in the Server... and is the default Document Root. I don't usually need to include that. Try just http://192.155.234.21.

        For example, if you have an index.a5w or html page published to your server and, in a desktop browser you enter http://192.155.234.21/index.a5w... does your page load?

        Depending on how you want your app to behave... in the List properties you can set "Delay render till explicit refresh" and then in the UX Client-side event onRenderComplete you could run...

        Code:
        {dialog.object}.refreshListData('YOUR LIST NAME');

          Re: Connecting Mobile App to Alpha DBF database

          I had the {dialog.object}.refreshListData('List1') call in the onRenderComplete Clien-side event already. I try changing the ip and delay render and see what happens

            Re: Connecting Mobile App to Alpha DBF database

            I placed the following code in the serverside onDialogExecute event

            if exist("CHH","PERMITS.DBF","CityCode") then
            e.javascript = "alert('the table is there');"
            else
            e.javascript = "alert('the table is not found');"
            end if

            it returned true or "the table is there" so it seems it can find the table but it still doesn't load the data.
