Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

4k HD screens on new laptops with Alpha

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 13 inch with a 4k screen. When I first had the system I some issues rendering several of the programs I use including Alpha software. The problem was fixed with a driver update from Dell and Intel then it came back again during a windows update. After three weeks of working with Dell (concierge tech support) they have not been able to solve the issue. I'll add they completely crashed my system and had to mail me a USB with windows install. I then found the following post about scaling issues on 4k screens and the associated fix.

    http://www.danantonielli.com/adobe-a...-displays-fix/

Alpha already has a manifest file so I added the appropriate parts to the existing manifest file and now the problem is solved and Alpha scales properly.

This is not an issues specific to Alpha or to Dell, it seems to be happening with many 4k displays.

If your thinking of making a 4k laptop your next purchase be aware of this issue and if needed look at this fix.

I wish I had found it about three weeks ago!

This is the manifest file I'm using for Alpha to correct the screen resolution on HD displays.

I just set up a new DELL with QHD display and had to use this technique for a few programs.

See the link in the first post for instructions.

For those who do have issues with the 4k displays I am adding one additional manifest file for using remote desktop. I use this often from my laptop to connect to servers and on 4k displays the remote desktop is the size of a postage stamp and the controls are unreadable. You first enable using an external manifest in the registry then create the mstsc.ext.manifest file and put it in the directory with with mstsc.exe.

Attached is a manifest file that works on my system.

              FYI

The latest windows 10 update 2017-06 Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022405) removes the side by side setting in the registry.
edit the registry and put back the side by side setting and it work again.

                    Tom,

Do you happen to have the registry edit instructions for this solution? I had to reinstall windows and lost it and the link at the beginning of this post is now dead.

                    Thanks

Once again the latest windows security update removes the PreferExternalManifest from the sidebyside part of the registry.
Just re-enter and all should be fine.
