Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help - with getting image value from list control

    Hi, and thank you for taking the time to help. Here is my situation.

    I am building an app where the client wants to bring up a list of recipes to select from. One of the fields on the list is an embedded image field. After the user selects a recipe the image of the recipe needs to be transferred to a bound image field in a repeating row section. Is this possible?

    When I try to use setvalue the image shows up in the repeating section but when I click the submit button it disappears and nothing is saved to the database.

    Again I appreciate your help

    How is the image currently saved in the database? Blob? Base64? I'm going to guess blob... and longblob at that.

      I don't know, why but I would like to hear why your doing the repeating section at all.

        Re: Help - with getting image value from list control

        Using a Repeating Section in a web app is a nice way of showing multiple selections... it's a good visual. A second List could be used as well. However, back to the Repeating Section.

        I can't recall a way to set an image value into a RS image control and have that bound control save back to a table... without the use of an Image Upload Action.

        But... the afterDialogValidate Server-side action to save data does have a number of methods you could use. Edit that Action... and you'll see that the AfterRecordUpdate Function event lets you call an XBasic function which will run after a RS row is updated. I've created a function named afterRecordUpdate. This function gets called once per row being updated. E.g. If you updated 3 RS rows, the function would be called 3 times.

        Editing the Server-side Action you'll see a couple of very handy links to fill in suggested event names... and to create the code you'd need for any event you select.

        Code:
        function afterRecordUpdate as v (e as p)
        'This function is called for the afterRecordUpdate event.

        'The e object that is passed in contains the following data:
        '	e.tmpl = pointer to the component definition
        '	e.rtc = 'RuntimeCalculationObject' - allows you to pass data from one event handler to the next
        '	e.connection = SQL::Connection object with connection to database.
        '	e.sqlUpdateNative = SQL command (native syntax) that was be executed to update the record
        '	e.sqlArgs = Arguments for the sql command
        '	e.section = Section number. Top level of dialog is section 1. Each repeating section is a different section.
        '	e.aliasNumber = Alias number. Each section of the Dialog can be bound to multiple tables (connected in one-to-one links)
        '	e.alias = Name of current alias
        '	e.row = if in a Repeating Section, the physical row number of the repeating section row.
        '	e.dataSubmitted = data that was submitted

        'Your event handler can set these two properties:
        '	e.rtc.abort = causes the entire update operation to abort. If transactions are turned on, the transaction is rolled back.
        '	e.rtc.AbortReason = reason to display for aborting the action

        'this function runs for each row being updated. e.g. if 4 rows are being updated... this function runs 4 times.

        debug(1)

        dim flag as l
        dim sqlArgs as p
        *property_from_xml(e.sqlArgs.XML,sqlArgs)

        dim imageBlob as b
        imageBlob = base64decode(e.dataSubmitted.CustImageData[e.row])

        dim args as sql::Arguments
        args.set("PRIMARYKEY_1",sqlArgs.SQLArguments[1].Data.content)
        args.set("imageBlob",imageBlob)

        dim sqlStmt as c
        sqlStmt = "UPDATE tblcustomerimages SET CustImage = :imageBlob WHERE (CustImageId = :PRIMARYKEY_1)"
        flag = e.connection.execute(sqlStmt, args)
        if flag = .t. then

        else

        end if

        end function
        The e object brought into the function carries pretty much everything you need to easily update your table blob image field.

        We need some of the arguments passed in so we convert from XML to a property var. This gives us the key we need into the RS table.
        The image coming from the RS row is base64 so we need to convert that to binary.
        e.row gives us the correct row to find the image data.
        The e object already has our connection... so it's just a matter of executing an Update statement.
        You can add messages... anything else you want to within the test of the execute... I've left it empty.

        You could do the same for an Insert if you're adding rows to the RS.
