Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

development provision profile & production provision profile for Apple applications

    Hello All ,

Wondering if anyone have created production profile ,
i have managed to download my application from PhoneGap , i did create development provision profile and i used the OpenSSL under windows environment , its working like a charm , although i have to add IPhones individually for those who want to download the app ...

i didn't decide to go in production mode ... but if i did create production provision profile from my apple developer account , does it mean i dont have to add IPhone any more to the list ?

and does it require to submit my app to apple store for approval , or this is only related to the apple store publishing ?

means , if i wanted to make provision profile without submitting my application to apple store .. can i do that ?

    please share your experience ..

    Thanks all

    Ahmed Sh

A Production Certificate and Distribution Provisioning Profile go together when submitting your App to the App Store. A Distribution Provisioning Profile means that you do not need to add a device identifier to the Provisioning Profile... since it's intended use is through the App Store.

A Development Provisioning Profile is intended only for testing. If you're using it for any other purpose you're breaking the agreement.

Apple Store Approval and Apple Store Publishing are essentially the same thing. You get approval to get into the store.

A Distribution Provisioning Profile won't do you any good outside the store.

However, this all applies to a Individual Membership in the developer program.

If you are an organization and want to build apps for internal use then you'd have an Enterprise developer membership which means you do not go through the Apple Store. But... your apps are only available exclusively to the organization's employees.

      Thank you David ,
Very valuable information here , I didn't know about the enterprise edition ,
So just to confirm I understand what concerns me
Are you saying I cannot use destrepution provision profile for my app unless it's approved by Apple which means also it can be deployed to Apple Store ?

Or I can just use it for my clients without having to go Apple Store

I could simply paste barcode image for users who get into my site to download it
Without having to add their iphone devices incase of having destrepution provision profile

That's exactly what am trying to achieve

I understand from you to achieve that I need enterprise developer account

      Please confirm

And thanks a lot you saved me lot of time

You cannot do what you want to do (given details below)... in either case... either with a Distribution Provisioning Profile or with an Enterprise account.

With the former, (assuming an Individual Developer account) your Distribution Provisioning Profile can only be used with the App Store.
With the latter, it's only your Organization's employees that are allowed to install the app.

So... the question is... are you developing an app for use only by an Organization's employees? I think not since you write "use it for my clients".

If your "clients" are organizations and the app is for a specific organization's sole use... then it would not be your Enterprise account... but rather theirs.

          Nope ,
Am actully calling website as webview and generate this as app
I want to place icon in main website for users to download it .

That's exactly what a trying to do

It's not for employees or specific organization
          It's for public use,
So my best chance is to use my developer account and submit it to Apple for approval

Any tips which help me during approval process please suggest me any if you got
Thanks a lot again for all these valuable information
