Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Session Variables - UX List

    Hi,

    I have a simple list which contains a list of clients which all have a unique reference number.

    All I need to achieve is to set a session variable every time a row in the list is clicked. So on my OnClick event inside my list I have the following Function:

    function SetUserVariables as C (e as p)

    e.session.SVClientRef = val(e.dataSubmitted.CLIENTREFMAIN)

    end function
    Is the e.dataSubmitted correct as I've used in a grid before? is it different with a list?

    However every time I click in the row the session is not set, is their another way of setting the session variable on click or even a different event?

    For reference the build I'm using is 12.4.2m Build 3856

    Create a button in your UX.

    Then use that button to create a new function - do it right from the button.

    When you do, have it create with the comments.

    The comments contain all the info you will need for getting and setting values in Xbasic for a UX.

      In order to set a Session var, you'd need to perform an Ajax Callback... a call back to the server. Are you sure you want to do that on each row selection?

      What is it that you need to get done? Why do you have to set a session var on each row click?

      Would State Variables be something you could use instead? Easily and readily available both Client and Server side.

        Hi David,

        Yeah I need the session variable to change everytime a different record is clicked into due to the unique ID of the row being changed.

        Would it be easier to do a state variable rather than a session variable? Would the state variable be ran at run time?

        Thanks

          Re: Session Variables - UX List

          I always use session.Mysessionvar and not e.session.Mysessionvar. The the e.dataSubmitted is correct, however, as long as the CLIENTREFMAIN is one of the columns in the List. Of course this session variable needs to be set inside an Xbasic function that is reached by a Javascript with an Ajax Callback to that function.

            Hi Maurice,

            Thats what im currently doing, I'm setting the session in an xbasic funtion and then calling this whenver a click is made on the main list. But still no luck.

              Ollie, this still seems a but unusual. What is it that you're doing... what process needs an ajax callback per List row click?

                Hi,

                Im running the following xbasic Funtion:

                function SetUserVariables as c (e as p)

                session.SVClientRef = e._currentRowDataNew.ClientRef

                end function
                I basically need the session variable value to change everytime a new client is selected off the List as im using the session variable to load an other a5w page.

                  Hi

                  Sorry i made a mistake in my earlier post. ClientRef should never be a List column name. It should be the ID of the List control.
                  Is ClientRef the ID of the List? That should be, and you always should set a return value in List Properties, set Return value type to Field and set Return Field to whatever field you like. Also, you can continue to use e.dataSubmitted for the reference.

                    Hi,

                    No my list is called CLIENTS, so should my xbasic funtion be:

                    function SetUserVariables as c (e as p)

                    session.SVClientRef = e.datasubmitted.CLIENTS

                    end function
