Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Emailing from UX

    I have a web grid with an 'Email' button. When the user presses this button, it opens a UX, populates several fields from the currently selected record, prompts for additional text from the user and allows them to email us this info.

    I am having a problem with closing the ux when the email is successfully sent.

    The function we have defined to send the email worked fine on Apllication Server builds 2446-4365 and prior, however any builds after this, when the user presses the 'OK' button on the 'email request has been sent' dialog, the calling UX will no longer automatically close and must be done manually.

    I assume the problem is with the closeContainerWindow('foo') syntax, but cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.

    The function to send the email is as follows:

    Code:
    FUNCTION email_sum2 as c (e as p)
    '
    DIM pm as P
    DIM ps as P
    DIM ps.timeout as n
    ps.timeout = 60000
    '
    IF (email_smtp_open(ps, "mail.mydomain.com", 26, "[email protected]", "PASSWORD")) THEN
    '
                pm.to = "[email protected]"
                pm.bcc = "[email protected]"
                pm.from = iif(eval_valid("session.__protected__userid"),session.__protected__userid,"[email protected]")
                pm.subject = "Web Email Message"
                msgtxt = "Case No.: "+e._currentRowDataNew.CASE_NO + crlf()
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "File No.: "+e._currentRowDataNew.FILE_NO + crlf()
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "Document: "+e._currentRowDataNew.DOCUMENT + crlf(2)
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "Customer: "+e._currentRowDataNew.CUSTOMER + crlf()
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "Product: "+e._currentRowDataNew.PRODUCT + crlf()
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "Address: "+e._currentRowDataNew.ADDRESS + crlf()
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "City: "+e._currentRowDataNew.CITY + crlf(2)
                                                    msgtxt = msgtxt + "Customer: "+e._currentRowDataNew.Customer + crlf()
                                                    msgtxt = msgtxt + "Sent From " + session.__protected__userid + crlf(2)
                msgtxt = msgtxt + "Notes: " + crlf() +e._currentRowDataNew.NOTE + crlf()
                pm.message = "Case Notes:"+crlf(2)+msgtxt
                email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
                email_smtp_close(ps)
                email_sum2 = "alert('Email Request has been sent!');{dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow('foo');"
    ELSE
                msgtxt = "Please check your connection."
                email_sum2 = "alert('Email Request Failed:" + js_escape(crlf(2)+msgtxt) +"');"
    END IF

    END FUNCTION

    what is the actual open "window"? the builder to open it should have an option to close it on submit and refresh the parent container - if it is a "window" sub type container there is an onhide event in the windows properties that could be used to go to a different panel card but either way I think you need to say exactly what is opening, and from a grid? a UX? a button click in a UX? ---- in order to help you to close it.

      email_sum2 = "alert('Email Request has been sent!');{dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow('foo');"
      i think here is the problem, you are sending two javascript commands to the browser, since javascript will fire all actions at once the second action takes place but the alert message needs to be closed and that is what you are seeing. since the second action cannot close the window, it stays open.
      you may want to separate the alert and move {dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow('foo'); to afterAjaxCallbackComplete in client side functions. that might work.
      i did not test it yet. if it does not work i will give it a shot.
      edit:
      ( may be {grid.object}.closeCotainerWindow('foo'); )

          Charles,

          It's opening from a button on a grid.

          Thanks...

                Re: Emailing from UX

                Tim, what Gandhi writes is misleading...

                Code:
                since javascript will fire all actions at once
                Usually, Javascript is asynchronous... however, this doesn't apply to "alert" statements. Execution is held up at an alert until it is cleared.

                First I need to ask... what does 'foo' represent in this case? Do you have a control named 'foo' on your UX?

                You have controls on your UX... is that right? Try this...

                Code:
                email_sum2 = "alert('Email Request has been sent!');var ele = {dialog.Object}.getPointer('MYUXCONTROL');{dalog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);"
                Where 'MYUXCONTROL' is a control on your UX.

                {dalog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(ele) wants to have a pointer to any control on your UX in order for it to close the popup window hosting the UX.

                I've tested this by opening a UX from a Grid using the Action Javascript "Open a UX Component". In this Action I usually give the UX a real alias... just for good measure.

                The UX opens in a popup window and I have a button on the UX which executes the following code... and the window closes...

                Code:
                var ele = {dialog.Object}.getPointer('CUSTOMER_ID');
                {dalog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);

                  button onclick event to open the pop up window to define the dialog, i just gave the window title to
                  <span id = "foo">Window</span>
                  and the code as you have works.
                  (david is correct, alert box did not change when i tested)

                  i am not sure you did the same thing, i do not know if they changed anything after that version. i tested this, as you know, in version 11.

                    I received the same results doing it as you suggested vs the way I have been doing it. It works fine in builkds 2446-4365 and before but doesn't close the window in later builds.

                    I think I will submit a bug report and report back what I find out.
