Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    gridFilterSet with inlist2

    I am using dbf's

    Using a user filter of inlist2(Str(vidid),:argList)
    Vidid is a Numeric type field and :argList is set by a sessionVariable that represents a char comma list such as "4,9,17,41,88"
    This works fine.

    I now remove one of the list entries so the SessionVariable char comma list is like "4,9,17,88"
    And now I wish to refresh the grid,
    So I use
    {grid.object}.gridFilterSet('inlist2(Str(vidid),:arglist)');
    Which creates an error of SyntaxError: Unexpected token )
    and if I try
    {grid.object}.gridFilterSet('inlist2(Str(vidid),"4,9,17,88")');
    I get the same error

    Note
    if I use {grid.object}.gridFilterSet('VIDID = 33'); it all works as expected

    So I believe the problem is in how I am using the quotes in the expression.
    I'm guessing there is a workaround through creating a large filter string such as 'VIDID = 4 .OR. VIDID = 9 .OR. .OR. VIDID = 17 .OR. 9 .OR.
    But I'd rather use the InList2 function. TIA

    Re: gridFilterSet with inlist2

    Normally xbasic quotes within quotes must be escaped.

    What happens with

    Code:
    {grid.object}.gridFilterSet('inlist2(Str(vidid),\"4,9,17,88\")');
    There can be only one.

      Re: gridFilterSet with inlist2

      Thanks, Stan,
      Code:
      {grid.object}.gridFilterSet('inlist2(Str(vidid),"4,9,17,88")');
      unfrotunately it returns the same error,
      and

      Code:
      var filterString = "inlist2(Str(vidid),'12,15,77,88')"
      {grid.object}.gridFilterSet(js_escape(filterString));
      returns an error of SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier

      any suggestions welcome.

        Re: gridFilterSet with inlist2

        You don't say how your session variable is being set. It seems that part of the problem is that changing the session variable doesn't flow through to the .gridFilterSet() method using an Argument.

        One way to get this done is to send back the .gridFilterSet() method from where ever you're changing your session var.

        For example, let's say your session var is set to "4,9,17,88" and your Grid renders. These are the rows you'll see. All good.

        Then you change your session var... let's say in an Ajax Callback. That Ajax Callback will not only set the session variable... but will also return the .gridFilterSet() method... but the method will not use :argList. This way... the session var will be set... in case the grid is refreshed in the browser... and... your .gridFilterSet() works because it's not dependent upon the session var and argument being in sync.

        Code:
        function setFilterList as c (e as p)

        session.vididList = "4,9"
        dim js as c

        js = "var grdFilter = \"inlist2(Str(vidid),'" + session.vididList + "')\";"
        js = js + "{grid.Object}.gridFilterSet(grdFilter);"
        setFilterList = js

        end function
        EDIT: I'm not sure that .gridFilterSet() is the best way to go. It's a User applied filter... and I believe must be removed before you can apply another filter. It also seems that you can't use {grid.Object}.showAll() to remove the filter more than once. Applying a filter, removing it, applying a filter is fine... but then it seems you can't remove it again. Very odd.

          David,
          You are right, I am setting the Session Variable through an Ajax Callback,
          To initially filter the Grid, I have placed it in a 'TabPane' and then selected the User Filter rather than the Base Filter,
          Until I saw your code, I was totally unsure how to manipulate the {grid.Object} from the callback. Now I have seen the code it now appears obvious.
          I will go ahead and test it and report back. Also that once removal seems wierd...
          Thanks for you guys time on this.

            DavidK and Stan, Thanks.
            Problem solved.
            I rebuilt the button that initiated the action from the ground up, and it all works fine now. I'm legitimately perplexed as to what caused this.
