Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Popup Window List - SQL filter -- doews not work

    I have a pop up windows container in a UX that contains a list control. It is a list of people. I am using this list to select staff and vendors as they relate to a work orders that the user is filling out.

    On the UX I have a hidden field that is populated by a lookup button.

    (Customers lookup button) is clicked and this hidden field is populated with the text "Customers".
    The button also triggers a popup window container to be shown. The List in this container has an argument that is bound to this hidden field. In the List genie the SQL works with the supplied argument. When the Popup Window is opened it does not run the filter on the list as is expected and I get the whole list.

    If I put a button on the popup window to refresh the shown list -- the List filters the data correctly.

    I tried delaying the opening of the window as the hidden field changes based on what button is clicked to lookup a staff person or vendor.

    Code:
    {dialog.Object}.setValue('hiddenType',"Sales");
    setTimeout(function() {
     {dialog.object}.showContainerWindow(this,'WINDOW_1');
    }, 1500);
    What could I be doing wrong here?

    Thank you,

    Michael Carroll

    Perhaps you can refresh the list data.
    Code:
    {dialog.Object}.setValue('hiddenType',"Sales");
    setTimeout(function() {
     {dialog.object}.showContainerWindow(this,'WINDOW_1');
    }, 1500);
    {dialog.object}.refreshListData(UXListName [,options]);

      I don't think you need a setTimeout in this case... and Frank is right... you need to refresh the List Control data because you're changing it's filter after it's been rendered.

      You don't need it, but if you're going to use a setTimeout... I'd be a bit uncomfortable putting the refresh after the setTimeout... because it will probably be run before the setTimeout. In this case, it's most likely ok, but usually it causes trouble.

      I would change your List to "Delay render till explicit refresh"... and then add your .refreshListData() method to the Window Container onBeforeShow event. That way your List won't load with data before you're ready, and will be refreshed before the Window is shown.

      Another way to handle this is to use one of the .filter methods on the List... but then you'd be rendering the full List and just filtering what's shown. If you have a lot of List rows you may not want to do this. The upside is that .filter is client-side and so no server callbacks. If you do this, don't use "Delay render till explicit refresh".

        Dropped the timeout.

        Ok did this.

        Good to know.

        Got it to work perfectly.

        Thank you Frank and Dave.
