Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    TabbedUI logout

I am developing a multi tenant app.
Each user belongs to an Organization.
In the TabbedUI onlogin event I check if the Organization is "active". If not, even though the user has a valid login details, I will then logout the user.
I have coded the following pseudo code which logs the user out but the alert() does not popup:

    Code:
    ....do some checking
    if login denied
        a5ws_logoutuser()
e.javascript = "alert('You have been logged out as your Organization subscription has lapsed');"
    end if
The forced logout seems to cause the TabbedUI to reload so no message ever appears. Maybe there is a better way to tackle this?

    Re: TabbedUI logout

Maybe a bit old school, but you can set a session variable with the message, then kick them out to an A5W page and display the message. I do this in my tabbed UI.

session.login_msg = "You have been logged out as your Organization subscription has lapsed"
    response.redirect("logout.a5w")

and on that logout.a5w do your logout clean up and display the message in the session variable. If they stay in the tabbed ui when logged out, you can display this message on the A5W page that is set as the body of the tabbedui.

      Re: TabbedUI logout

I handle expired users a bit different, expired users can still access, download (excel) and delete their information, however, they cannot ADD or EDIT so it essentially becomes read only. I still throw a message on login, first of all, to alert them of this and to let them know how to renew for full access. This allows me to invite them back later and they do not have to start from scratch or do anything special to access their data and I think it assures them we are not holding their data hostage which I think is important in the very beginning of the business decision to use an online subscription model for business information.

I'm just throwing this out there as food for thought...

        Re: TabbedUI logout

here is an idea, since you have not solved it yet.
i think you are using integrated login in the tabbedui component. i also think alpha just combined the login component with the tabbedui component. you don't have to do that.
you can create your own login component and that will be in a login a5w page, when people login successfully, you send them to an intermediary a5w page where you check if the company is active or not. if they are active then setup your session variables and all other company related information and response.redirect to tabbedui.a5w, if not log them out and response.redirect to a page where the information is given, that page could be "not subscribed.a5w".
(the tabbedui is designed to reload when logout. may be there is something that can be changed to accomplish what you want to do, i won't know for obvious reasons)

Off topic: Gandhi, I browsed your blog just now - very useful! I added it to my "useful links" under the category of Blogs in case anyone is looking there for resources. The links page is here: https://iadn.com/links.a5w

Gandhi, I am sure you are right. There does seem to be an issue with the tabbedui as a login page for my purpose. It suits me to do as you suggest so I won't spend any more time on this. Thanks to all for their suggestions.

                Re: TabbedUI logout

Another reason to never use the tabbedui as the primary page, login page, is that it is not at all usable by smaller devices. A mobile device hitting a tabbedui is a showstopper. On one site (IADN) I worked to make my public pages all mobile responsive, without making it a mobile app. Its not perfect, but nearly all of the public pages are decent on a mobile device. However, if a Developer logs in to review their account or whatever, it pretty much requires a full size browser. Eventually I will make a mobile version of the website. But my comments are besides the point of this discussion.
