Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error Opening Alpha Style

When I try to open the Alpha style with the Web Style Builder, I am getting the following error:

    AlphaStyleError.png

If I click OK and proceed, the style builder is empty:

    AlphaStyleError2.png

Only Alpha style is giving me this error, all the other styles are fine. I wonder if this is a bug or whether my installation is corrupt somehow?

Have you tried doing a full install of Alpha? Sounds like it has something to do with the SASS feature on Alpha theme that allows style tweaks.

Go to the properties area of a UX and click the tweak styles smart button right after where you select the theme for the ux....there is an option there that takes you to the style tweaks folder where your tweaks are saved for persistence even if you update Alpha developer....maybe that folder was not installed?

I can see the SASS style editor in the UX properties and the tweaks folder ..

I have also tried re-installing the patch but it still gives me the same error trying to open Alpha style via Open Web Style Builder.
Perhaps it's time to do a full install .. I have not done this in ages .. are there any precautions doing a full install vs patch?

The obvious backup your project files to a remote location, etc prior to doing the full install.

Otherwise I defer to others on anything else. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program before without issue....but... one never knows!

I run in Hyper-V so I have complete backup/imaging capability should disaster strike :-)

            Re: Error Opening Alpha Style

There were a number of bugs in this. Selwyn said they were cured on Monday's pre release I think.

I have not had that error but can you explain where you are trying to open Alpha style. You cannot edit "Alpha" in the old way. The documentation is not great but you can use Sub Themes but they are only supported in the UX currently and only work in pre release.

The other way to do it is edit your core "Alpha" in an editor STRONGLY discouraged or build a clone MyAlpha and edit that. If you are trying to use the sass variables in an external stylesheet then you will have to set up a compiler.

Can you explain what you are trying to do. We play with this every day so we can probably explain how we would do it. Things are changing fast here so our current methods will soon be out of date.

FYI this is Alpha modified http://smg.datadrivensystems.co.uk:8...ne/filter1.a5w

Built for the ipad no consideration given to the browser.

Thanks for the feedback Michael. I'm opening it from the Open Style Builder dropdown menu in the web projects control panel as was shown by Sarah on the last Alpha Webinar. This is what I get:
              https://www.screencast.com/t/HOXoRux5d

As for what I am trying to do, well I really just wanted to take a look at the Alpha style and get a little more familiar with it. My project is really quite large and since it's been implemented over the past few years, it still uses the GrBlue legacy style. I would like to move to Alpha style but, to be honest, I don't even know where to begin. I tried replacing a couple of components with Alpha style and the results are not pretty. I'm a little overwhelmed by it to tell the truth.

                Re: Error Opening Alpha Style

Nearly everything we do uses lists. Most of the layouts are custom Html and CSS.

We are just re visiting a large project that was started in V10.5 and has a mixture of styles.

One of the Major problems with Stylesheets is they appear to be of the moment. So GrGray while dated is excellent with Grids. Alpha, on the other hand, is very mobile facing and the grids are bulky.

There is a small fix here.

                Message.png

If you take a few screen shots I will see if we have a stylesheet that may help.

We are currently building a framework but it will be a while before it is ready.

                  Re: Error Opening Alpha Style

Well, just for example ... here is one UX showing my current GrBlue style and what happens if I try to change to Alpha style.

                  GrBlue
                  GrBlue.png GrBlue_Properties.png

                  Alpha
                  Alpha.png Alpha_Properties.png

                  Alpha with Minimal checked
                  Alpha_Minimal.png

But, I have dozens of components .. UX's, Grids, TabbedUI's .. so it is rather a daunting proposition. I'm not certain its a road I'm prepared to go down at this point in time.

                    Re: Error Opening Alpha Style

You are right, if we had those components we would have to write custom CSS. You are using plenty of icons etc and those need to be thought through.

I think just exchanging style sheets may not help you a lot.
