Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Set default valus from another control on UK

    Hi Guys ..... the old grey matter is running slow .... need a bit of help

    I have a UX running against a MySql table with 3 textbox date controls (in this order):

    Closing Date
    Start Date
    End Date

    The UX will be on a web page for adding a new record. When the Closing Date is populated I want the End Date to be set to the same date as the the Closing Date as the default. The user needs to be able to change the end date if they wish.

    How do I get the default value in the End Date set to the Closing date?

    Thanks for your help.
    John

    var closeDate = {dialog.Object}.getValue('closeDate');
    {dialog.Object}.setValue(endDate,closeDate);

    CAUTION if you set this on an onChange event then the user edit could overwrite your work.

    so you probably want to wrap it in an if statement.

      Unless there is something a little more complicated than described, I would simply set the End Date at the same time and with the same value that I set the Closing Date. I don't see the need to "daisy chain" the setting of the values.
      But I suppose you could also use the .setValueFrom method after the event that you use to populate the Closing Date.

        Thanks for the quick response .....

        The Closing date is the closing date for job applications to be submitted and the End date refers to the end date for the job advert to appear.

        Jeff .... There is a specific need to populate the End Date as the Closing Date is filled so where do I use .setValueFrom?

        Michael ... We want to fill in the End Date with the date from Closing Date and then give the user an opportunity to change the end date if they wish so ..... would we use the onChange event on the Closing Date control and what would the code be?

        Thanks for your continues interest.

        Cheers

          The problem is you populate the end date from the closing date. The code will overwrite the End date onChange so if the user returns and edits the closing date any data they put in end date is over written.

          It depends on your usetry setting an if staement to check if the end date has a value then you can skip further updates.

            Ah Ok, I assumed for some reason that when you said "populate" the Closing Date that it was coming from the database and not being populated from user input.
            In any case, setValueFrom would be used in the same way as Michael describes except that you save 1 line of code because you don't have to do getValue then setValue.

              Re: Set default valus from another control on UK

              Thanks Michael ....

              I understand what you mean ....

              How we envisaged the process is that at this stage of the process the user can edit or change dates ..... once the user is committed to placing the job advert the dates will be submitted to the table and will be read only where the dates are used on other UXs or lists. So .... does that alter the thinking about the onChange?

              Is this where we put

              var closeDate = {dialog.Object}.getValue('closeDate');
              {dialog.Object}.setValue(endDate,closeDate);

              and will this acheive getting the date into the End Date?

              Thanks for your continued interest.

              Cheers

                Thanks for your help .... here's what I did and it Worked!

                On the Closing Date onChange I put an InLine Javascript action:

                {dialog.Object}.setValueFrom('Advert_End_Date','Closing_Date');

                This sets the End Date when the Closing Date is entered and enables the user to change the End Date if they wish.

                Now in a simlar way ...

                I want to calculate the no of days the advert will run by calculating the difference between the Start Date and the End Date and set the No of Days control with the result.

                Where and how will I do that?

                Your help will be much appreciated.
