Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

One time login script "Change Password"

    Hello everyone,
I am curious if there is a way to run a one time script when a user logs in to change their password.

Idea is you have users that are given default passwords to login. When they login I noticed you can run a login script, so it would be nice to run a script that says change password that has the password screen and once they complete it will never run again, but I am guessing it can't be done or is extremely complicated.

I don't see any way to set a value to know they did this unless maybe you create a simple table and that the form gets the user ID and writes username to table and writes a 1 if they complete new password or a 0 if not and at each login the script reads the table and if value 1 it skips prompting to change password and prompts to change password for a value 0 or maybe you can't do anything until you change your password. Just thinking of an approach.

Simple thing is just run a script with message box that every time they login it say "don't forget to change your password on a regular basis and if this is your first login change password now" and two buttons being OK and Change Password, but that could get annoying I guess seeing it every time you login?

Thank you for any thoughts on this matter!
    Paul

Government requires a 30 day pwd change in the UK.
Suggest an encrypted table with user login credentials.
The pwd field should all be ******* anyway.
Save user pwd at a given date.
If current date minus pwd date > 30 (say), force a pwd change which must not include the last entered 6 (say).
If the table is encrypted, you should be able to restrict access fairly well.

Just to complicate matters, you need a way of checking if two people are using the same password.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.

      Funny, thanks for complicating matters.

This table is or is not the actual section used for system security?

I have setup a security page where owner creates groups and users and clicks individual buttons to set security for each form based upon Alpha's security system groups and users to control access to page/form. I also have at same time a hidden square that owner can click on each form to set access privileges there. Trying to decide what makes more sense. A page with each form button to set form access in one place or do it from each form.

      Thank you,
      Paul

Re: One time login script "Change Password"

If it was my train set, I would have it all on one form for the Admin person.
A list of users, a list of forms, and a list of options re grant or deny.
It's more work but also more simple for the Admin.
The settings in the security should make no difference to which form the logged in user sees. Just that they cannot use some of them.
Investigate Menus. You can control what a person can do by simple code.
Start with RightClick menu creation, I suggest.

Martin Wilson has done an excellent one page admin in the past.
