Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I am confronted with a host, that my original codes using ftp_get. is not working.
    Here is what I have got so far:
    The host setting are:

    Server / Host: home3.1and1-data.host
    Port: 22
    Protocol: SFTP
    User name: u49-sub
    Password: xxxxxxx
    Personal note:
    Directory: /click/BMC
    ----
    (I can not change the port or protocol)

    -----------------
    FTP_GET_NLIST("home3.1and1-data.host","u49-sub","xxxxxxx","/click/BMC")

    ? FTP_GET_NLIST("home3.1and1-data.host","u49-sub","xxxxxxx","/click/BMC")

    I get ""
    I do not get errors in connecting, so I assume that connection is OK. Is there a problem in defining the "/click/BMC"?
    Please advise.

      Above response was using Alpha v11.
      I am trying the next code under Alpha V 12:

      dim ftp as INET::SFTP
      sftp.UserName = "u49-sub"
      sftp.Password = "xxxxxxx"
      sftp.ServerHost = "home3.1and1-data.host"

      if sftp.ReceiveFile("/*.jpg","\c_scans\*.jpg") <> .t.
      ' error
      msg = sftp.callResult.error
      ...
      end if
      -------------------
      I can not save it.
      I copied from the instructions documentation. I am missing something.
      Does any one sees what I am doing wrong?

        I see nothing wrong with your FTP_GET_NLIST code in your previous post.
        I am still using it with Alpha V12 and it works fine.

        I could never get the INET:SFTP to work period. I assumed it was because I did not have the latest version of a5V12.

        Here is an example of what I am using right now and it works.

        filelist = FTP_GET_NLIST("ftpserver.mysite.com", "admin42", "mypassword", "/httpdocs/My_Software_FTP/File_Folder")

          Just a thought, if you're using a new host, it could be a problem on their end.

            Thanks for the quick response. I just tried that line. When I ask for: ? filelist I get ""
            A note: Upon typing the code, it feel that is reading, ???? then stops. No errors.
            I tried various combination of file /locations. Same results. You may be correct, but the hosting company allows you to create hosting names, user and pw so you can get to files.
            Using WinScp, it works using giving data. It does open the selected folders.
            If I create a new hosting name and different starting folder, it works too.
            Can you open your book of tricks and see if they is one that will help me.

              I don't know if it meets your requirements/desires but cURL does ftp.

                Mike,

                Quite frankly, I got fed up with the unreliable FTP connections I was having with one of my alpha apps that was running on multiple computers, so I built an ftp communicator with PureBasic.
                It's a nice little executable that I call from the Alpha desktop application and then wait for the reply and act accordingly.
                It's specifically customized for my application, but building it with PureBasic was not difficult at all. I haven't been able to nail down why the Alpha FTP code works great on some machines but not others,
                maybe something to do with firewalls, antivirus apps etc. I don't know, and I haven't given it much though since my system has been working good. I use the Sys_Shell() function to open the FTP Communicator with different parameters depending on what I need it to do.
                If you know how to program with XBasic then PureBasic is pretty much a no brainer, because the coding environment is very similar to XBasic. I can tell you that in my experience thus far the PureBasic FTP code is solid.
                It sucks to have to build something else, but sometimes we have to go outside of Alpha to achieve our desired goals. I have 5 applications built with PureBasic that work directly with my Alpha Five apps. It's not perfect, but it has enabled me to do what I wasn't able to do with Alpha alone.
