Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Keith:

No thanks necessary. I haven't contributed much here, at least not recently. Time is the issue - even this took 2 hours to modify, create and test the small app in the code archive.

By AA, do you mean Alpha Web?

The function will work on either desktop, or on Alpha Web. You are just replacing the browse with a grid.

Everytime the developer adds a report, that person (aka you) needs to revise the grid or browse by adding a new field used as the flag field; the one that gets the 'X'. Only an admin user gets access to selecting who gets emailed each of the reports on that grid or browse.

As for where the report gets saved, that I bet will need to take place on a folder on the web server. You might want to add time to the section that names the report, as well as possibly adding the user id. Then, adjust the CLEANUP section at the bottom of the function so it cleans up by user. You may not even need to save a copy of the report for long. I added that in as some reports are run before a post, so an archived copy was a logical addition to the function.

    Hi Craig,

Thanks for link to Code Archive, I have downloaded your sample and as far as I can tell this is for desktop.

Can you help to do this from AA?

    Don:

If you are reasonably fluent with XBasic, you might want to build something a little more dynamic.

If you hard code in the email addresses, every time they change responsibilities, hire, and fire, you need to go in and change the code. If you work for that company, than that's no big deal.

If this is for a client, you might want to think twice about having to maintain code everytime they add or delete a recipient.

You might want to create a function that looks at a table where an administrator can add and subtract email addresses, and place an X in the column that represents the report to be emailed.

You can get the extra money for expanding what needs to be done, since the script will take longer to create, and the user has the ability to govern the email without waiting for you to add and subtract recipients.

Of course, every time you add a new report, you need to add a new field to the table, but that's easy.

See attached for a generic browse table I did for a company...

Either way, Alpha can do what you need it to do, as others have suggested.

I send about 2500 at a time using Mandrill - it bypasses your ISP. Takes an average of 1.5 to 2.0 seconds to convert one or more reports to PDF and send as attachments.

    Govindan is correct.

I send to multiples all the time with the other method as well. The addresses need to be in the form or table/set you are working with

You can set up premade email templates and send to many, if you want. I sent 20+ thousand once, but it took a while because my isp would only allow like 35 per 30 minutes.
    You do the math.

I thought it might be easier to email more than one person from A5? Maybe not!
are you using email_send2 function, the example in wikipedia shows how you can send to many people.
the to parameter of the message pointer can have multiple entries separated by ';', ',' OR crlf()
    take look at the function.
i use that function in web but so far i have no need to send to multiple addresses.

put UI_EMAIL_SETTINGS() in a button to open the email setup dialog(xbasic) or in a script.

    If you need more help???

Trying to Email from A5 anywhere

Is there any step by step procedure so I can send copies of reports to an email address who do not have A5? Setting up an Email Profile seems to be the hangup.
Working...
