Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Error Loading "Reached end of file while reading an object"

We were using Alpha Anywhere 12.0 just fine this morning. Working on closing out our end of the year books. We have the same number of users in the system as normal.

At 11:49am, I closed out of Alpha on my computer (which is the development server computer) to go work on other projects. Came back ten minutes later and Alpha won't open on my computer. It displays two error messages.

Loading Error: Reached End of File While Reading an Object
    Click Ok
    Unexpected File Format
    Click Ok
    Nothing opens

Others that haven't closed Alpha are still able to use the other features.

Turned off computer. Restarted computer. Same errors.

Went to a computer that had been on but not in Alpha. Can't get in same errors.

Any ideas what is going on?

Update: I looked at our back up system from last year and I can successfully open that file. So it may be limited to the active version we are using on the server.

      Try updating the indexes.
Make sure you have backups first.
If no go, open the application without going through the usual startup procedure and try again.
If Alpha won't start, it could be a Windows issue.

Managed to get it fixed by uploading the entire database from two days ago, and then copying just the .dbf files from earlier today into that saved version. Still have no idea how it happened.

          Sounds like a Windows issue.
if you have the app and data in the c drive, Prog Files, Windows does not like changes to data there.
That's why old timers install in a non Prog Files folder.
Glad you got it working. Others will benefit from your efforts.
          Thanks for posting your solution.

Almost always a corrupt index that only needs to be re-indexed.

Yeah, but if you can't open the application, how is one supposed to perform a re-index?
Do you have to go through the entire exercise of adding the ALB library into another app that will open, to get access to the autoexec in the "corrupted" app, put in a bypass of the autoexec in the "corrupted" app, restart the corrupted app, re-index and then re-establish the autoexec for the "corrupted" app and re-start the now hopefully uncorrupted app?

DEBUG MODE - in the Help documentation.

Yep, post#3 bypass. Hold down Ctrl+Shift and click on the application. If it doesn't work, it has been turned off. See documantation.

                  Maybe not everyone knows that?
