Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Desktop bubble pop-up stopped working on one form

I have a desktop application that is running on A5 version 12.4119 in Windows 11. In this application, I have one form that has stopped displaying the bubble pop-ups when the cursor hovers over buttons where I have installed help notes. The form has 157 fields and many buttons, and is the most complex form in my application. On other forms in the application, the bubble pop-ups still work fine.

Using A5 version 12.8565, the help pop-ups work, but when I move the cursor around on the form, it closes unpredictably. In older versions of A5, is there a limit to the number of objects that can be on a form? Has anyone encountered (and solved) this problem? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

I would look at the milisecond setting for the Help, Dick.
Is the problem all the time or just on a particular day?
Although I use flyover help, it is often easier to have a ?BUTTON with a full text description.

Ted -- All of the pop-ups on the one form have stopped working. I've tried different delays, although I prefer short delays, which work fine on the other forms. I have a tabbed object with five tabs that I thought was (perhaps) too big, so I moved two of the tabs to a different form, but I still could not get the pop-ups to work reliably. I do have a help button on the form already. For the time being, my users will do without the pop-ups on that screen. It's a little frustrating, but not a crisis.

      Thanks for your response.

I have not found a limit to tabs, and have examples of tabs within tabs, about 10 deep. Don't think that is the issue.
The reason for asking about timing is that I have nightmares with Windows Telemetry - as discussed elsewhere here - especially on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning when the Windows update happens.

Might be a case of rolling back to a previous version in AAnywhere

        Alpha 11 current/last version is 3788.

Almost sounds like rolling Windows back to a previous version would be a worthwhile effort.

If all the other forms work OK, the problem most likely is this one form. I doubt windows or the Alpha version are in play.

            1. Did this form ever work correctly?
            2. When did the problem start?
            3. What did I change from when the form worked OK till it broke?
            4. Did I make any changes to other forms and they are still working OK?
            5. Did I do a work space compact?
            6. Can I roll back to a previous version of this form and restore bubble help functionality?

I'm not sure if you are aware of this feature in Alpha. One can go to the forms tab, right click on the errant form, and select "Restore to a prior version"
In the list, find the version that you know last worked. Restore that version, test that it still works, and then start making any changes you made since. With this restore feature, one can move forward or backward at will.

Just to have it said, this has been a problem in forever, and I have just stopped chasing this rabbit hole.

Ronald -- That is a helpful tip. As you suggested, I right-clicked on the form in the control panel and restored several prior versions until I found one that worked. It was just over a year old (February 2, 2022), and I am not sure how I'm going to proceed to find the offending change to the form. However, it does give me a good place to start. Thanks!
