Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

If it worked in V10 and doesn't work now, submit a bug report. You'll either get a fix or a workaround or advice on what to change.

David, I have a feeling that folks who use the supercontrol pre-filter the range of records displayed in the form. Otherwise, the presence of the supercontrol is unnecessary and takes up display space. Just guessing, of course. In any case, good luck with your project. -- tom

    Thank you again Tom,

Unfortunately the CO control does not resolve the problem. The supercontrol is processed even when placed in a CO, and the message pops out even when the CO displays nothing. I think this is a general settings matter, but I am not able to identify which is the setting I have to tune in order to prevent this annoying message from popping up!!!

    Thanks a lot,

David, I missed the fact you're using a supercontrol. Sorry.

I have only limited experience with the report supercontrol so there are probably better ideas, but ... I'm wondering if this might be a place where the Conditional Object control would be useful. It might be possible to drop the supercontrol on to a "layer" of the CO that is displayed only when the appropriate records are present. Otherwise, the CO displays nothing, not even a white space.

Re: 'There are no pages in the layout' message for Report Preview Supercontrol

Thank you for your answer Tom.

Being my report a supercontrol, the message is displayed in any case on fetch, if the report is empty. Your solution would work if I should open the report as a separate window, but in my case it is not possible. Maybe I am missing something.

The funny thing is: I developed my database with V10 without any problem. My forms include several supercontrol reports, and if they are blank they are displayed as white rectangles, with no messages popping out. A few days ago I switched to V12 and the problem came out.

    Do you have any idea?
    Thank you in advance...

Hi, David, and welcome to the message board.

This question has come up a number of times. Check the links at the bottom of this thread of messages to see some that have been selected for you by the msg board itself, based on your topic description.

The message is displaying because there are no records that match the filtering criteria in your report layout. A common solution is to display the report using a button on your form. The onPush event of the button object can be scripted to run a silent query using the filter criteria that your report would be using. If no records are found the script can end after displaying a custom message to inform the user what happened, all without trying to preview the "empty" report.

    Hello everybody,

I have big problems with "Report Preview" supercontrol.
I have included a report in a form. The form contains data, while the report often contains no data. Every time the report is blank, the software returns the "There are no pages in the layout" message. I would like my software not to return such message!

    Thank you in advance,
