Form properties "Timer Interval in Seconds"

I am wanting to have a field value in a table that says what I want to change the "Timer Interval in Seconds" or verify that it is correct. In searching I have found the object "parentform.timer_interval" When I use this to enter the value in a variable it comes up with 0. If I use xbasic action scripting to get the code for this it shows what the value really is in the form. but when I run the code is comes up with 0. When I go and try to change the value with xbasic it does not change the value. Am I doing something wrong, got wrong object, or is this a bug that I know will never get fixed?

Hello, I apologize for getting to this so late, but I just don’t get on this forum much anymore. It looks to me like you’re trying to dynamically change the form’s timer interval in order to change the interval at which you would like to check your emails. If this is what you’re trying to achieve, it can be done with a couple of global variables.

As far as I know, you can only change the form’s timer interval through the properties or the object explorer. Once set and the form is saved, it will remain at that interval.

Here’s how to dynamically change the interval for checking your emails.

[Step 1]

In your autoexec script, add two global variables and some code to retrieve the interval:

dim global check_email_interval as n
dim global email_timer as n

‘here you can open a setup table and retrieve the value for your variable “check_email_interval”

dim tbl as p

tbl = table.open("settings")

tbl.fetch_first()

'Get the values needed

check_email_interval = tbl.email_interval

tbl.close()

[Step 2]

Open the form properties and set the “Timer interval in seconds” to 1 and save the form.

[Step 3]

In the form’s OnTimer event you can put code like this:

email_timer = email_timer + 1

if email_timer = check_email_interval

   'Check your email here


   'done checking reset the timer

   email_timer = 0

end if

end

You can dynamically change the value of "check_email_interval" to whatever you'd like. For example, if you set it to 120, your emails will be checked every 2 minutes.
