Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What I'm finding depending which criteria I am using in the Print/Preview for the report, if I select a basic query with just one condition ie. find Trainer called Fred Dove, the correct data appears in the report for all 4 records. If I select a 2 condition query ie. Find Trainer called Fred Dove and Jockey called Steve brown, it ignores the 2nd condition and displays all 4 records for the trainer Fred Dove, which is not correct. As mentioned before, these genies run perfectly from Control panel / Reports using the Print Genie option.

OK, have a look at the attached. I have taken the liberty of adding a search filter.
You can run the Quick Filter as many times as you wish to drill down, as per my Q3
      Example. Highlight Ted Giles, QF.
      Highlight Billy Whizz, QF
      Press easy report

I think there are a number of ways to solve this but that really depend on what you are trying to do. How many users, one style of report or multiple styles of reports, a finite number of queries or many different queries some of which are developed on the fly, how often you want to run these queries, etc...

Probably the simplest method would be to use a browse with a custom toolbar. The Print Current List prints a report using the records visible in the browse. One can use the quick filter or the query genie to filter the browse. At the bottom of the query genie, one can build queries and save them for future use.

Another option would be to create an xDialog and allow the user to simply select what they want the report to return. More work to create but easier for one to use. One can show a list of different reports or a list of specific queries, dates, names, etc...

            Hope this helps!

I've learned quite a bit by following this thread - thanks!

              Ron,

Are you able to share a copy of the UX you created above so I can see how that's done?

              Thanks!

Here is the xDialog script which will create the birthday dialog. It should run initially as I don't believe there are any dependencies.

Hi Ron, running the print genie from the browse works well, as this is how I had things set up before Ted offered a solution using a Form instead of a Browse so I can send the data to a report. Although the browse can be based on a set, which is now what I am requiring as the 2 tables are massive, so I don't want to convert them into a single table, but I do need to send a selection of query data from both tables directly to a choice of reports. A selection of reports will be available in the system which can be selected by the user based on the content of the query. These queries will be created and saved by the user, and there could be thousands of different combinations of query data that the user wants to filter on, and of course they can store only so many. I found a "delete saved query" script that button that works very well.
I can't do this from a browse unfortunately, as I cannot send the data to a report. Now the Dialog certainly looks interesting for sure, so I will take a look down that route.
Thanks for all your inputs guys. Much appreciated.

Take a look at the mapped table. You can join multiple tables selecting the fields you wish and view each record in a single row. You can then run the table in a browse and use all the tools available in the toolbar including building your own xDialog to help with the queries.
