Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

v12: Things we want put back!

I know there have been a few changes in the desktop for v12, but it seems some of these changes are a step backwards.

For instance, in the properties editor when selecting a gradient for an object - the old graphic view is gone. Instead you get a list - which upon edit, defaults to Gradient Horizontal.
And you can no longer switch the color with the accent color like before.

    Has anyone found any others?

Re: v12: Things we want put back!

    Here's another:

In v11 you could create a custom color list under View/Settings - this too is missing in v12. And in v12 when you have the color picker open, you can only set a color and add it to the custom list by sliding the little pointer thingy around til it approximates the color you want, IOW, you CANNOT type in the RGB numbers directly. I was trying - in vain, to match the new blue window title bar in WIN 10 and could not for the life of me get it close. So I used a 3rd party color picker only to find out I couldn't type those numbers in!

    Edit:
I did find a round about way to add the RGB #’s - in the form editor object properties, you can paste or type in the color # then add it to custom colors when you open the drop down.

Just go back to 11 for those kinds of changes - as far as I know V11 and V12 desktop are identical or virtually identical.

Re: v12: Things we want put back!

Over the course of nearly 40 years in software, I've experienced on numerous occasions, manufacturers leaving out in the latest release of software a feature that worked perfectly in the previous.
When asked why, they waffle unconvincingly as to the reason.

Perhaps someone in Alpha would like to be the exception to the rule and explain why the custom list under View/settings has been omitted in V12.

After all it is an extremely useful tool as it saves effort and brings consistency easily.

Are not those a significant benefit of what development tools are about.

For all I know their project management skills or quality control failed them.

If not can someone from Alpha please explain to me why you would deliberately exclude it please?

Can you add it back in please?

Perhaps Robin and Alex could send this in as a bug report? These features may have been dropped by accident? That has happened before in the past. Don't expect them to read your post here. Inform them!

To all the good people at Alpha, I apologise for my comments on this post.

The ability to set up your own system colours is where it has always been.

I should have checked before I commented.

The old software adage of check, check and check again was never more true.

Alex, I may be going nuts but with both A5v11 and A5v12 open only v11 even showed the option. Now that I can see it is there, I apologize for the panic!
