Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calc Field Formula Required

    Hi guys, I am requiring a calc field formula to determine whether the values of 4 numeric fields match a set of numbers contained in a text field.

    Text field:- No.33 + No.2 + No.17 + No.3
    Numeric fields:- Field_A = 17, Field_B = 33, Field_C = 3, Field_D = 2.

    The 4 numeric fields can contain numbers ranging from 1 to 64.
    To get a TRUE result, the 4 numbers contained in the numeric fields must match the 4 numbers contained in the text field. The field order is irrelevant so as per example the numbers can be in any order as long as the 4 numeric field values are matching the numbers contained in the text field.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Calc Field Formula Required

    No.33 + No.2 + No.17 + No.3
    This is precisely what is contained in the text field with possibly some trailing spaces?

    Code:
    txt = "No.33 + No.2 + No.17 + No.3"

    v1 = 33
    ? alltrim(str(v1)) $ txt
    = .T.
    v2 = 2
    ? alltrim(str(v2)) $ txt
    = .T.
    v3 = 17
    ? alltrim(str(v3)) $ txt
    = .T.
    v4 = 3
    ? alltrim(str(v4)) $ txt
    = .T.
    This is not meant to be the field rule, only a suggestion as to how to proceed creating it.
    There can be only one.

      Wow! Thanks Stan. I will take a look at what you suggest.
      You are still the main man by all accounts.

      Best regards

          Re: Calc Field Formula Required

          I just need to flag up TRUE or FALSE if any of the bets are winning bets.
          I do this for other types of bets like 3 horse Tricast bets where there are only 6 possible outcomes to the result such as :-
          Winners = bets->BETTYPE='RT'.AND.Bets->Players=alltrim(Winner)+' + '+alltrim(Ru)+' + '+alltrim(Third).OR.bets->BETTYPE='RT'.AND.Bets->Players=alltrim(Winner)+' + '+alltrim(Third)+' + '+alltrim(Ru).OR.bets->BETTYPE='RT'.AND.Bets->Players=alltrim(Ru)+' + '+alltrim(Winner)+' + '+alltrim(Third).OR.bets->BETTYPE='RT'.AND.Bets->Players=alltrim(Ru)+' + '+alltrim(Third)+' + '+alltrim(Winner).OR.bets->BETTYPE='RT'.AND.Bets->Players=alltrim(Third)+' + '+alltrim(Winner)+' + '+alltrim(Ru).OR.bets->BETTYPE='RT'.AND.Bets->Players=alltrim(Third)+' + '+alltrim(Ru)+' + '+alltrim(Winner)

          Not so easy with 24 different outcomes with 4 horses involved.

            Re: Calc Field Formula Required

            Where do you want the calculated field, table level or form level? Where does the text field exist, table field or form object? Is your form based on a set with an embedded browse? What is the set structure? What are the table names?

              Re: Calc Field Formula Required

              Hi Stan, all the bets are contained in an embedded browse on a form. The winning bet is also available on the same form.
              The Bets are in a table called BETS, and the field name is called bets->HORSENAME.
              The 4 numeric fields are also in Bets table. They are QuadWin, QuadPlace, QuadShow, QuadFour.

                  Hi Stan, just to let you know, I managed to do this using 4 separate calc fields.

                  Many thanks
