Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Alpha Calendar Pro

    Unfortunately not.

The calendar displays data from a table. The calendar cant add or change records in a table.

Would be nice if it did.

I'm just running the SWF version (cheapo) and our intent was only for viewing into the graphic. If you look at SWFcalendar's other offerings, they do have some versions that can transverse both universes. Though I'm not the expert on how/if it those wpuld function with Alpha.

Here is the reply I got from Mauricio, regarding updating the data table.
Drag and drop is not available, Flash calendar has that functionality in its "administrative mode" but since that mode does not returns an updated XML there is no way to update your A5 tables based on the info displayed on the calendar
I hope that clarifies that question.

Alpha Calendar approach on adding/editing events is to make a grid which updates events in your "events table" and then the changes will be reflected in the calendar as consequence, drag and drop is not supported in current versions.

            Re: Alpha Calendar Pro

I just picked up a new client where one of the main functions is scheduling. It is for a Doctor's office and I will be creating an "EMR" for them.

They have tried a few, but they all fall short. One of the main functions will be scheduling.

I wish there was a product out there that would take the data I collect and present it in a calendar format.

Oh wait, I think I found it. (Has my sarcasm come across?) I think I will wait till some of the issues I have read here get shaken out before purchasing.

I have to work on the data collection first, but just knowing I won't have to worry about presenting the data in calendar format is a big relief.

It is for a Chiropractor and I have tried Healthsoft's program, but the client wants WEB BASED. I tried talking them into a Terminal Server solution which IS Web Based, but they tried two others that used Terminal Server and they feel that was part of the problem.

I just keep telling myself: "The client is ALWAYS right!", even when they are TOTALLY WRONG!

I would have MUCH rather sold them on the program that is already written, but I guess I have to get my feet wet with this Web Based programming so I might as well get paid for it.

Barry, you can just try the demo and see if it fits your needs which I think it will definitely do

By the way all the issues that users have posted or sent by email have been resolved and if new where to come up I would certainly attend them ASAP.

                Re: Alpha Calendar Pro

If you where trying to connect to SQL active link tables and where getting the next error (or similar):

                Code:
                Script:OnInit line:14
                tbl = table.open(tabla)
Error loading C:\AlphaFiveDB\Administracion_Inteligente\sql_named_events.dbf : Unable to connect to backend database while opening local cache C:\DOCUME~1\USUARI~1\CONFIG~1\Temp\$$1107_DATA_sql_named_events.dbf for table sql_named_events.
                Invalid syntax for connection string.
Must be formatted in one of the following ways:

                	name1 + chr(9) + value1 + crlf() + name2 + chr(9) + value2 + crlf() ... or

                	{name1='value1',name2='value2'...nameN='valueN'}
The solution is: DO NOT use named connections when making the active link tables for events, locations or categories (use the Ad hoc Connection String option)

*Make sure you are running Alpha Calendar version 1.3.3 (or 1.1.1 for backward compatibility with flash calendar v1.2)

                Documentation will be updated

                    Re: Alpha Calendar Pro

I'm also getting an error. Does the below mean anything to you?

                    Code:
                    500 Internal Server Error
                    "Script Error
                    Error:Script:Cl_Load_Events line:21
error: lookup(cl_path_tbl,id="custom",Cal_tbls_path) The system cannot find the file specified.
                    cl_path_tbl.DBF"
Copied Alpha_calendar and Calendar_table folders to the database folder (c:\mailtime) and then copied the alpha_calendar_webfiles to c:\a5webroot\mailtime.

Try going to the "test your calendar" option and the push the publsh button then try testing the calendar again

(check that a file called DoNotDelete exists right under your webroot)
                      Cheers

you sent me an image before of the calendar working fine for you with your "real" data (it looks real nice by the way) what have you changed since that point? the answer must be there

                          Did you changed any directories?

are you trying to move from one server to another?

If you open the DoNotDelete in notepad those it contains the correct path to alpha_calendar folder?
                          Cheers

I just checked the code and Im possitive that the error comes from alpha calendar not finding the DoNotDelete file under "c:\a5webroot"

the file must be found this way

                            c:\a5webroot\DoNotDelete
                            Cheers

i know it looked great. I was all psyched.

I've messed it all up though. I started all over again and now I'm getting just the blue screen and no data at all. There must be something residual that I didn't delete or something.

thats on the trouble shouting section of the documentation

                                extract:
In the "Cl_Calendar_full.a5w" page I only get a blue frame, but where is the calendar?

Make sure that the folder “Alpha_Calnedar_Webfiles” and all its files are located under the same folder as your web project (see 1. Installation) if not copy the folder and place it correctly.

you can also try deleting cache, history fies , cookies etc.. from your browser or even try a different browser to see if thats the problem.

If it already worked fine there is no reason for it not work again, It just needs some tweeking
                                Cheers
