I am developing a progress report application for multiple schools.
A school administrator can sign on, "create" a new progress report ("Winter 2009" or "3rd Marking Period 2009") and it will be "active." Once the progress reports are complete the administrator can "archive" them.
When a teacher signs in and chooses to "update" the progress reports, he will see a list of "active" progress reports filtered by school. The teacher chooses the progress report, subject and class. Once chosen the teacher will see a list of students associated to that class. When they click on the student they will get a progress report form that they can complete for the student.
I chose the class list option because it will keep teachers from having to search for each individual student (sometimes over 120 students).
Each student can have a progress report for each subject. So theoretically there should only be one report for Johnny in class 601 for Math. One for Science etc.
My solution (which I am having issues with):
I am using a dialog that allows teachers to select Progress Report, Subject, and Class. The dialog then sets session variables and redirects to the next page. On that page they will see a list of students from that particular class. When clicked a window will pop up allowing to update (or create new) the progress report.
In order to test that I am storing the correct information my redirect page only has <%A5 ? session.SelectedClass+" "+session.SelectedSubject+" "+session.SelectedPreport %>
It works but when I go back and change the class and subject it stays the same for the whole session. I have to sign out and sign back in and then i ca set the session variables again.
I though you could set the session variables within the same session. I even tried blanking them out <%A5 session.SelectedClass = " " %> but that does not work.
Sorry for the long winded post.
any ideas?? I have thought of using a grid from the Progress Report table which will preset the report, subject and class. My problem with that was having multiple entries of each student. Since there can be 5 or 6 entries for one student, when showing a list of students in the class, each student could show up multiple times (unless I can filter that out too). Plus if there are no entries yet, the search would not give a list of students. Am I making sense to anyone?
I could use some help on this one. Maybe even a partner. Contact me if you wish.
