Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5w page images not displaying

I have inserted a couple of simple static images onto an a5w page but when I view on localhost they won't display. They look fine on the WSYWIG view of the a5w page editor. What am I missing?

    Peter,

Usually, you have to put in a relative path to the images. In this case, they might not have been copied into the a5webroot where localhost is looking.

Pat, I checked. They are in the webroot. Any other ideas?

Hi Pete, this is very unusual, what format are the images, also lok at the source in the a5w page and ensure it does not have a drive or path - just the file name.

Pete, the images are jpeg & png. Tomorrow I'll post a sample page and image. Maybe someone could take a look at it then? Thanks.

If you really want to go nuts with images - it will do it - here's a sample style i'm using to move away from conventional page call methods to basically never leaving the single a5w page that hosts the grid, eveything being display is a grid, no dialogs or menu navigation. All secuity enabled to the field, anyhow hope you enjoy the video.

                  Peter,

Assuming you've implemented the static image in such a way that it should result in generation of an html img tag, did you perhaps use your browser's View Source option to check to see the tag was indeed present and that the path was reasonable?

                    Al,

That might be it. Where do I add those file types to be allowed?

P.S. Why aren't they "allowed" by default?

web security - page security - just above the close button

I'm guessing that the other question is rhetorical...???

Are you saying that security has to be enabled in oder to view an image on an a5w page?

                        Yeah, I guess it's rhetorical.

If you don't have security enabled, then security won't be blocking anything.

But if you do have security enabled, then you need to be sure that the various file types you need are allowed by security.

Sounds like you don't have security on, so this isn't the issue.

Exactly. No security so the images should display. Just for the heck of it, I enabled security, allowed the file types and still no dice.
