Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: 403 Forbidden

In our testing, this error seems to be isolated to the V9 Compatibility Server. If you turn off the V9 Compatibility Server, PDF reporting should function properly. We are working on a patch to fix the V9 Compatibility Server.

If you have a specific need to use the V9 Compatibility Server because something does not work as desired with it off, I would like to hear about it so that we can resolve the issue for you. The V9 Compatibility Server is provided as a temporary fall-back in case of unexpected problems, but it is not intended to be used regularly.

      Re: 403 Forbidden

I am not using V9 compatibility mode Not in develop mode or production. From a tabbedUI button the report will open NOT from a PLB. So the workaround is not helping for that point.

I installed build 3523, turned off v9 compatibility, and now I am getting this error in the browser when I run reports.

Safari can’t open “c:/A5Webroot/session_folders_-80/4213390f454c48abafbddc2914d57179/tempreport.pdf?152327910” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “c:”.

              Firefox just locks up.

Using the development version of A5V10 on my test server I turned off the V9 compatibility and am now able to view pdfs. I am using build 3515. When I installed patch 2736_3523 I was unable to start the application server.

                      Re: 403 Forbidden

The outstanding issue seems to be that patches 3520 through 3522 had a bug that created an invalid server configuration file. 3523 fixes the bug, but does not account for the invalid configuration.

You can wait for the next patch which will account for and repair the bad configuration, or you can use 3523 and then either delete your server configuration file and let it be recreated, or edit the file and remove the two lines that begin with SessionFolders.

                        Lenny,
                        - when to expect the new patch?
                        - will the new patch fix the error report printing?
                        - will the new patch fix the Grid errors that we now get?

Thank you for listening to us

Anyone get this to work. I've tried everything I've seen on the forum and am still getting the error. I am using latest build. I see where there is to be a fix from Alpha but as of now I don't see it.

                            I did this:

However, if you prefer to leave your application unchanged and instead return to using session_folders, you can edit your server's XML configuration file (which can locate by using A5_GetAppServerConfigFile() in the interactive window) to set the SessionFolders.Path and SessionFolders.Url properties.

In this case, the correct values would be
                            SessionFolders.Path = "S:\a5webroot\session_folders\"
                            SessionFolders.Url = "/session_folders/"
                            -Lenny

                            and all is working fine

Has this been resolved? I am a newbie to Alpha and I really would like to use the product to print to PDF.

It is the main reason I am looking to migrate from Filemaker Pro......I am using build 2736-3523

Since I JUST purchased Version 10, rolling back to an earlier version does not seem to be an option.

                              Suggestions? Thanks

an alpha newbie here as well. Just go ahead and try it on a real 'live' server and see for yourself. At present I am using 2736-3523 just like you and I am able to print to pdf. Hopefully it will stay that way.
