Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tired of the Publishing Bug

Ok this one has been in alpha for a loooong time and somehow we have learned to live with it, but when is the Publishing going to get fixed?, is like if alpha decides when to publish and when not to, but the thing is that it misses 90% of the time, if im pressing the publish button JUST PUBLISH the darn thing, dont try to get all smart on me and pick what you think needs to be published and what not.

And no clicking the "delete history" button and uncheking the "just publish modified files" are not the way to go,

    Pleeease fix this prehistorical bug

(sorry for the emotional brake down)
    Cheers

Re: Tired of the Publishing Bug

    I'm with you on this.

I use the FTP publish and SOMETIMES it chooses to publish a whole host of .png files, or .js files, or sometimes none. Sometimes it republishes all the calendar files, and sometimes not (I didn't change any of them!), and sometimes it republishes the entire CSS directories, and sometimes not (and I didn't change anything in them either). Not sure what is going on.

Because my wireless connection can get slow at times, it makes for a roll of the dice as to how long it will take for many unnecessary files to publish. This is what wastes most of my time.

Why is it insisting on republishing files that never change!?

    Thanks!
    Bill

Re: Tired of the Publishing Bug

Each publish profile has an option to set the default for publishing support files such as css and js files. If the option isn't checked, support files are only published if you select to publish "All files in project" or select "Selected Files" and specifically check the support files to publish.

Right click publish can be set to always publish, or just publish changed files. It also includes an option to limit the publishing of support files.

          Jerry,

I have to agree with Mauricio, I have pretty much given up on publishing when I am on the development portion of a grid or the a5w page. V10 will NOT publish properly from the development page (not all the time).

I have now learned to leave the development mode, go back to the page where you select the files to be edited, click on the PUBLISH button there, clear out the history and then publish the grid or a5w. Then everything works fine...

This has really been a pain....there is no real way to prove to Alpha that it is happening to generate a bug report.

          Phil

              New patch Release Notes:
Web Applications - Publishing Profile - You can now specify a default value for the 'Publish new or modified files only' property on the Publishing dialog box.

Re: Tired of the Publishing Bug

There are a number of options in the publish profiles setting. You can customize the behavior of the right click menu publish from the component and page lists, and you can specify that the builders use the right click settings. If you select the latter option, publish from a builder uses exactly the same code as the right click publish.

It is possible under certain sequences to publish a page without saving changes first. Always make sure you have saved a page in the editor before trying to publish it.

You can also set the page security from the HTML editor by right clicking on the page's tab in the editor.

Re: Tired of the Publishing Bug

In my publishing profile I have Publish New or Modified Files Only unchecked, however, when I go to publish using that profile the Publish new or modifed files only is checked and I have to manually uncheck it each time. What am I missing?
