Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Turn off security

I played a bit with web security to see the possibilities. Then I deactivated it. The first thing that happened was that my submit button was greyed out. I made a new web component, no help. I trashed the .a5w page and made a new one. No help. I deleted the web project then tried to rename the folder within the webroot folder and I can't even do that. Access is denied. This is pretty powerful stuff. I hope it gives me my tables back.

Did you try changing your pages to "always allowed?"

Rob, I don't understand your answer. The a5w page?
I don't see any setting for anything like that.

        Re: Turn off security

I've started a new project within the webroot folder in it's own folder. I still have no submit button. The only thing that remains from the first project is the two data tables. This security stuff is very sticky.

What submit button, where? A grid, a dialog, a login component, something else? Is security on or off when you see this? Is this in LivePreview, published local or remote, Working Preview.

I've started a new project within the webroot folder in it's own folder.
What does this mean? Your project files are in the a5webroot, or are you publishing to this location? "Project files" are never in the a5webroot folder. By project I mean the database tables and the other files you modify to build your project - a5w, components, etc. You PUBLISH your project to a folder in A5Webroot. You may be doing this, but I cannot tell.

On n AJAX Grid, the submit button IS grayed out unless there is some reason to click the submit button, new record, dirty fields, etc.

            Re: Turn off security

            Good morning Steve.
This setup is stone simple. I have two tables, "runs" for data entry and "services" which I use for names for drop down menus.

I start a new project and publish it to the webroot folder into a folder called "flights2" C:\A5Webroot\Flights2
I'm serving it up with the WAS on :8080 since I'm running Filemaker Server on :80

I create a new enter record form grid called "Entry". I create a new a5w page called Flights2. I put the grid on the page. I publish it along with the database files.

I must have done this 20 times now trying different stuff and everything worked just great. Never a problem. As soon as I turned on web security, I threw a monkey wrench into the works. Originally everything was in the "Flights" folder but I created the new "Flights2" to start over, but it doesn't matter, some security somewhere is stopping me from entering a new record. Here is the URL

            http://72.45.168.163:8080/flights2%5Cflights2.a5w

My point is that I've created everything new from scratch except for the tables, which I guess I'll have to try next.

I had a nice working little setup, entering records, modifying them, deleting them, and it worked for months until I turned on web security and added a login component to try it. I thought you could just enable or disable it. In my case it acts like I enabled a virus. As usual I'm sure I'm the only one that this has created a problem for, but I thought I might share my experience.

your page url has a forward slash change it to backward

              http://72.45.168.163:8080/flights2/flights2.a5w

I put a record in "greeting from Eric ":D

                Re: Turn off security

Your screenshot shows that your data files are in the webroot. No, no, no! You need to publish your data files OUTSIDE the webroot. Not sure if this is the reason your web security is screwed up.

                e.g.
Publish your web pages/components to c:\a5webroot\flights2
Publish your data files (dbf/etc) to c:\a5data

The only data files you will then see are the security files named websecurity_*.dbf/ddd/ddm etc

                  Re: Turn off security

                  Hmmmm,
This has been working back slash and all for about 4 months "in production".

As far as putting data files in the root, I thought that was only for security reasons and it shouldn't affect the way things worked. This only a test afterall.

The back slash is weird because for all the testing I did last year, I needed to use the forward slash in order to get things to work in the first place. Didn't make sense to me at the time, but it worked.

Guess it took web security to make me do things right?
I'll keep trying. Thanks everyone for the time.

                    Guess you're right about that.

I think you might have to use the forward slash in one of the profile settings. Doesn't make sense to me either.

                      Re: Turn off security

Can't tell for sure, but if you are publishing to the same folder where your project files reside, you will ruin your project. You must not store your development files in a5webroot, and must not publish to the same folder where your development files reside.
