Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    No records in query

Forgive me but i am so frustrated.

This is the scenario, all I would like to do is to filter records based on a ulink in the users dialog. I downloaded the ulink data from my web_emails table.

Now I set up the session variable in tne Web security settings as __protected__ulink. See images.

Now in the master.dbf table there is a field called costctr which also have the same number i.e "200599". If you look at the second image I am filtering on that with ulink argument. Is that wrong?

At the moment I am getting "No records in query" when I run the report.

    Help and thanks in advance.

    Hi

Is the costctr a character field or numeric?

The next thing I would do is make sure that the variable is actually available when you run the grid. One way to do that would be to place some xbasic code in the freeform area of the grid.

        Something like

        <%a5
        ?session.__protected__ulink
        %>

Will that be in the aw5 of the Master component?

          Thanks

I believe the culprit is the filter. When I take it out I get data. See attached. but its not filtered.

                  Re: No records in query

When defining the argument are you setting a preview value? If not I am pretty sure that the working preview cannot pickup the argument as it will not be able to find the session variable. To do that you will need to test in a "live environment"

Oh OK. How do you set a preview value. How then can I test it in a live environment like in a browser? I did that and its still the same.

                    Thanks

                      Re: No records in query

When you defined the argument there was an option to add a preview value.

Check out the Web Publishing tutorial in the online help file that will point you in the right direction.

I did the preview and it works. Take a look so I believe your comments that I will not see it until live stands. Take a look at the bottom of the 3rd image and you will see the costctr underneated the login dialog. Something is working :)

Thanks a lot. I wish I can test and see

is local webroot a live environment? I'm getting the same results.

the variable appears in the free form. but no query records in the grid. kill the filter and I have records.

                            thanks
