Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

a little skimpy on the details aren't we there Al. Web vs desktop?

"Email me" could be a button that the user pushes that generates a lookup to the persons real email in the table and email action generated.

You have two choices when it comes to sending an email from a web app. Create a link starting with "mailto:" followed by the email address and any valid parameters, or using an xbasic function like email_send() or, my preference, email_send2().

The first method brings up the users email client, whatever they are using, and displays the TO email address, so not what you want. The second requires you to also provide a textarea in your web app for them to type their message. The easiest way is to use a Dialog, add a textarea field for Comment, and a Submit button. In the AfterValidate Event add code to send the email using email_send2().

Let me use this opportunity to show off I have just completed (or really, refined from earlier development work) a pretty good CAPTCHA utiltiy built 100% in Alpha Five at this address: http://www.ialpha5.com/framework_v3/contact.a5w. Uses the "BITMAP()" functions to generate a true CAPTCHA image with optional 'noise'.

Just to add to that, the "mailto:" link doesn't have to display the email address, but if you drag over the link you would see the address in the bottom bar of your browser. You could also hide the mailto: link and use a Javascript On-Click Event (easiest to try out using a button) and just put {emailfieldname} in curly brackets as the URL. I presume someone smarter than me could still get to the address, but it wouldn't be visible to anyone who didn't go to the page source code.

            Thanks for the reply Chris,

I just want ti so that the email is readily avaiable for Email pirates to easily steal . Its funny because i saw the example of how they hid the Cust_ID in the detail view and thought that DAM that wouldbe a sweet way of hiding email address's in web app's .

Now there a great addon for a future release ( smile )..

Your app worked great it was my IE for some reason whe it first hits alot of A5 pages it disp[lays error's...

Now the reason i want to hide the email adderss is to simply make it alittle more difficult for the email grabbers to steal them . It just too easy to cut and paste LOL......now if the have to open each one in a client , well they just wont bother..

I like the email addon for A5 and that would be a great way to handle it BUT the problem i have is the site i wish to build will host annonymous users and i wont have account,s for them . Now if A5 had an automated login , that would make life much easier for the app's i want to make .

Lets get thing straight , i am Not a programmer , but i am a Intelectual Engineer LOL . My friends gave me that title as it seems i have the greatest Idea's , i just need the army to make them happen...

                Al

Ps: i have devloped a few small app's wit anothe rprogram called OPUS , but database stuff really intrigued me Ohhhhhhh LOL
