Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    position of detail view

    I want my tabular grid with detail view to show the detail view above the grid not beneath the grid.

    Since I did not find any option for that I changed the a5w page
    but then the grid does not work as expected; I cannot click on a row to move from one record to another, I cannot edit a field in the detail view until I click for instance on the NEXT link in the grid or on a navigation button in the detail part. (from that point on the arrow in the left grid column also start appearing again)

    Any suggestions?

    here's the a5w part:

    <table><!--Table enclosing Grid component-->
    <tr><!--Table row for Grid Detail View Part-->
    <td><!--Table cell for Grid Detail View Part (Will be blank if Grid uses a Master Layout Template)-->
    <%A5 ?x_Customers_with_.Output.Body.DetailView_HTML %></td><!--End table cell for Grid Search Part-->
    </tr><!--End table row for Grid Search Part-->
    <tr><!--Table row for Grid Search Part-->
    <td><!--Table cell for Grid Search Part (Will be blank if Grid uses a Master Layout Template)-->
    <%A5 ?x_Customers_with_.Output.Body.Search_HTML %></td><!--End table cell for Grid Search Part-->
    </tr><!--End table row for Grid Search Part-->
    <tr><!--Table row for Grid Part-->
    <td><%A5 ?x_Customers_with_.Output.Body.Grid_HTML %></td>
    </tr><!--End table row for Grid Part-->
    </table><!--End table enclosing Grid component--></p>
    </body></html>

    Have you looked at the Master Template options under Grid Properties?

      Re: position of detail view

      That way I don't need to edit the A5W page, so far so good.
      I used a custom master template, inserted the predefined 'vertical layout' and then changed DetailView_Part for Search_Part and vicecersa. I then get an error in live preview saying "GRID1_GridObj is undefined" Probably because the detailview part needs to know what grid it is depending on. So I need a way to tell that to the detailview part. All new to this, sorry.

      <!--Table - Vertical Layout -->
      <table>
      <tr>
      <td style="vertical-align:top;">
      {grid.DetailView_Part}
      </td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
      <td style="vertical-align:top;">
      {grid.Grid_Part}
      </td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
      <td style="vertical-align:top;">
      {grid.Search_Part}
      </td>
      </tr>

      </table>

        </table>
        putting the detail view on top of the grid part in the template will will not work - it is a limitation. the problem is that the Grid part emitts some javascript that is assumed to be present when the Detail View part renders. if the detail view renders first and this javascript has not executed, you get an error.

        However, all is not lost - through the power of Javascript you can add some code to your master template to swap the position of the Detail View and the Grid after the Grid has been rendered in the right order. It happens so fast you will never even know that it has happened.

        Here is what you need to do for your master template:

        Code:
        <!--Table - Vertical Layout -->
        <table>
        	<tr>
        		<td style="vertical-align:top;">
        			{grid.Search_Part}
        		</td>
        	</tr>
        	<tr>
        		<td style="vertical-align:top;">
        			<div id="G">{grid.Grid_Part}</div>
        		</td>
        	</tr>
        	<tr>
        		<td style="vertical-align:top;">
        			<div id="D">{grid.DetailView_Part}</div>
        		</td>
        	</tr>

        </table>

        <script type="text/javascript">
        var G = $gvs('G');
        var D = $gvs('D');
        $svs('G',D);
        $svs('D',G);

        </script>

            Actually, on further thought on this, I would suggest one small changes.

            Remove this <Script> </script> section from the master template.
            Then go to the Javascript tab in the Master Template builder and add the javascript there as follows:

            Code:
            var Gele = $gvs('G');
            var Dele = $gvs('D');
            $svs('G',Dele);
            $svs('D',Gele);

            The reason that this change is required is to make the Grid work correctly if it is displayed in an ajax callback. For example, if you put the grid into a Page Layout component, or you display the grid in a row expander, or when a button is clicked, it is displayed in an ajax callback.

            Also, I have changed the variable names from 'G' and 'D' to 'Dele' and 'Gele', because IE gets very confused when you have ID names and Variable names that are the same.

              Thank you! Works perfect. Maybe this can become another tickbox property for the detail part ?
