Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tabui Height issues

I am trying to include a TabUI into an existing a5w page. It works but for some reason I can not get the grid/content section to increase in size of what it allows the user to see without scrolling. I attached a screenshot to show you what I mean. Some pretty knowledgeable/skilled people(much more so then i) have told me that they have had the same exact problem and have found no fix. I wanted to post the problem here just in case someone had figured out a work-a-round. Please let me know if you have and what it is.

    Thanks!

You need to adjust some of your settings for height of header and maybe the sidebar could be made smaller.

        Re: Tabui Height issues

I know from first hand that he is using Steve Wood's template which uses a lot of a5w_includes for content management purposes and that seems to be interfering in some way with the tabbed UI dimensions.
I was able to help Josh with the buttons pane which was being cropped to, but we didn't have any luck with the content area

A work around would be to not use the template for that specific tabbed UI page but apparently he needs to use the template there too.

          Re: Tabui Height issues

I think if you apply the latest patch that graphics problem is resolved. The problem has existed for awhile when inserting A5W in the TabbedUId that have embedded components. But in a test just now on the latest patch it seems to render properly.

But my Template was not designed with the TabbedUI in mind, and is designed to produce a more traditional looking website (header, footer, horizontal nav, etc.) and it expects parent A5W pages to exist, so it will take some work to make it fully behave inside a tabbed ui.

I note that the coursework for Alpha University says the TabbedUI page must be the top level page. So I would expect that any use other than that will require a workaround or other adjustments.

I've got the Tabbed UI page working correctly within an a5w_include() in the top page...

                    Re: Tabui Height issues

Frankly, I don't know what makes mine work right if other people's aren't--it seems straightforward just like the examples in these posts. I've just got a <%a5 a5w_include("TabbedUI_NavPage2.a5w") %> in the main page, and my Tabbed UI doesn't have header or footer text. It was originally built back in the days of v10 beta, but it's definitely been changed and re-published since then...

                      Re: Tabui Height issues

Does it work properly even when you simply resize your window? In other words, if you grow you browser window from a 2x2 box out to a normal whatever, does you right/left scroll bar still disappear?

                        Re: Tabui Height issues

Now that I've played with it a lot more, it apparently doesn't. It seems to work when i Maximize the window from smaller but not when I just resize the window.

Sorry for misleading you all--can I add my name to the list of people wanting the answer?

                          Josh,

Am I correct in saying that your scroll bars wont disappear even when the window is maxed?

If this is the case, then I must have got something right as mine behave in this way. They appear when the content section is larger than the window size and vanish when it is smaller.

All but one of my grids is on a page layout and each page layout is contained in an A5W page which I create a tab for.

                          Cheers

I don't know if my problem is the same...

                            This is my situation:
                            • I use Tabbed UI grids to display grids and text.
                            • The texts can be edited on line because in fact they don't are .a5w-pages, but records in my table "web_pages".
                            • Here's my problem: Somehow the vertical size of the box in which the record is displayed, is limited. It then happens that, when the menu-bar is long, the box does not fill the frame and has an unneccessary scroll bar. See attachment.

Is there a way to increase the heigth of the "box"? I tried a couple of settings on the tabbed UI leven and in de CSS, but without result.

                              Rene,

Referring to my earlier post, have you tried:

                              1. Grid into Page Layout THEN
                              2. Page Layout into A5W Page THEN
                              3. A5W Page onto TabbedUI

On the page layout component there is an 'On Page Window Properties' section which might solve your problem.

I have my tabbedui content structured in this way and do not have the issues you mentioned.

                              Regards
                              Chris
