Client side Date Calculation

Hi All,

How do I show the calculated difference between two dates on the client side, using the Client Side expression?

At the moment all I get is Nan.

I also found a solution using a Ajax Callback

adding an Onblur event on field Out1 see screen shot below

then setting up in Properties
Xbasic function declarations

function setTime as c (e as p)

'This function will handle the Ajax callback.

'It must return a string of Javscript commands that will be executed in the Browser.


e._set.Hours.value = (ctodt(e._currentRowDataNew.Out1) - ctodt(e._currentRowDataNew.a5fn_In))/3600


end function

This process worked well and solved the time difference problem. Client side Xbasic has such much power and in the hands of the wrong people could be dangerous. Thanks Jay for the experience. Great insight.

I use this for business days.

bus_days_between(Date_Filed,date())

where date_filed is the field name {date_filed} placeholder.

Hi Peter,

Where do you use the bus_days_between() function?

That seems like a good idea but I will want to know all the days between the 2 dates. Wont that leave out weekends?

Keith,
You can use Xbasic funtions in an Ajax Callback.
Say you have D1 as a date field, D2 as a date field, and Days as a numeric field (N,6,0)
In the OnBlur javascript event of the second date, create an ajax callback called getDays. Make sure to check the Compute current row data.
In the grid properties Xbasic function declarations, put in this function:

function getDays as c (e as p)
e._set.days.value = ctod(e._currentRowDataNew.d1) - ctod(e._currentRowDataNew.d2)
end function
