Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Navicat Mysql Query

I created a Query in MySQL via Navicat.

When I tried to use this in a new Alpha V10 component it is not listed.

I used AlphaDAO but in Table/View name the Query is not listed.

Is this correct or should the query be in the list?
    Many thanks
    John

    Re: Navicat Mysql Query

    Hi John

Queries will not appear but if you create a view within Navicat that will appear in the table list back in Alpha Five when you connect to the MySQL database.

      Thanks Glen
I created a View but found after a few table links it became quite unstable causing errors where I think there are no errors. The Query on the other hand seems reliable.
      Have you had this experience?

        Hi John

No I have not but having said that often when building a view I tend to preview regularly to make sure I am seeing the records I expect to see. The most important factor for this is the type of joins used.

          Thanks Glen,
Some I tried to create failed after the third join, I cant see any reason and I check after each join is created

This sounds interesting can you give me any more pointers here please.

A good place to help is http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp

Shows the different types of join and how to use them.

              Thanks Glen
Using the View generator seems to shield one from a lot of SQL although the demo on page http://support.navicat.com/visual_tutorial_mysql.php does quite a good job of explaining how a little of this this is carried out. However try as I may my View generator seems to fall over very easily.

As a tryout I created a QUERY with the 10 links required which it creates without a hitch. I the copied and pasted the code in to the VIEW.
This VIEW worked with no modifications.
I then used the view in a component in A5 which also seems OK.
I wonder if it will show problem later?

                Re: Navicat Mysql Query

hmmm. It sounds like the view builder itself is struggling. I have now experienced one sample of this when building a view that contained a table more than once. If I dragged the table into the view it threw up an error but still worked okay.

It sounds like your workaround gets over any shortcomings of the view builder. If Alpha sees the view okay then I would have thought it should be okay.

                Kind regards

                  Re: Navicat Mysql Query

Yes using one table twice was a definite no no for me, so for Country to be used in two places I created tables Country1 and Country2 that seemed to solve that issue.

Even though I got an error it still works okay using the same table more than once?

I think I used just one table with two connections. It placed an AND in the code so no results showed. So different approach I think.

                        Re: Navicat Mysql Query

In discussions with Navicat it does seem there is a bug in the View builder.

                        I received from Navicat
The ammend SQL seems missing a close backet at the end of the SQL. We will review Query Builder. At the moment, please try to add a close backet at the end of the SQL and save.

                        BoardResol` = `y_n_boardres`.`YN_Boardres_ID`)))

Maybe they will issue an update soon.
