Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

You have removed the solution I put there - why?

I don't think I did, but I don't know what you put there. It may have come about because I've been having problems with godaddy about this vps. Tell me what you put there so I'll know if I messed it up. The only thing I've done today was fix the ftp account because it quit working. And then I republished the app.

NOW it's working again - don't kill it. I've set up a web projects profile called peter, you did not have an alias set up for you app, also I reinstalled the server - please don't make changes to settings you do not understand. You should start learning the fundamentals to keep yourself out of hot water.

You cannot use the FTP account to publish - it's what causes the error.. from what I see. - you can FTP your database folder ATO, to the server under your A5 development folder, then use the peter setting to publish, it's he only way you will get this to your client, sort the problem later.

            Re: Where'd my icons go??

Thanks Pete but it didn't work. In fact in the developer on the server you can't even see the icons in the working preview.

I am frustrated beyond belief and I'm concerned that I've taken up so much of your time. I don't know what to do with this project but I may have to abandon it over such a trivial matter.

              One more go...

I just logged into your server - I have re published the peter profile to the server folder is title2 http://97.74.117.52/title2/TabbedUI_title.a5w her is a picture of the images working from the orders... now the fist item does not work as it is incomplete, the other work.

DO NOT US ALPHA5 to publish just copy your development folder an publish it.

                Re: Where'd my icons go??

Let me make sure I have this straight. I develop on my local computer. Then I copy my local directory to the server and publish it from the server using a5 developer with the Peter profile. Is that correct?

Correct - we will look at why later...

Any time. This project has 3 modules. I copied your profile to the admin module and did what you said, but no icons. I must have missed something. I put in the alias.

This is very hard to figure, I noticed you had no css files in your project - just spent 30 minutes there - I think the problem is on your source machine - send me the app zip privately.

OK Mate - think I've beat this - your ftp is your problem and you had no css style sheets in your project folder.. also we have 2 different builds for server and development. Should be right once install completes.

                                Re: Where'd my icons go??

When I saw your post and everything worked I was was thinking Pete is the man. But when I went into the server to see what you did I couldn't get in. Usually when you've been on the server you leave it in a way that locks me out. So I had to restart the server to get back in. When I did that you're fix stopped working. That's probably why you thought I was killing your fixes.

So I went in and loaded them as discrete images and called it good. I have another problem that works fine locally but fails on the server but I can find a workaround for that too.

I don't know if I have an incompatible server of if A5 just isnt server friendly yet.

I so appreciate what you did to help on this and the little sample of the tester app you showed me led the way to the workaround. Thanks Peter for spending the time you did with such a novice as me.
